Prophetic AI characterizes lucid dreams as "tools that accelerate consciousness like particle accelerators."

Prophetic AI, a neurotech startup, aims to offer a simple route into the realm of dreams by leveraging cutting-edge neuroscience and artificial intelligence technologies.

Our dreams often reflect our inner thoughts, emotions, and subconscious concerns, providing valuable insights into our lives. To harness these revelations, Prophetic AI is working on a "non-intrusive" neural device designed to induce and maintain lucid dreams. Lucid dreams occur when the dreamer becomes conscious of their dreaming state while still immersed in the dream itself.

"Prophetic AI co-founder Eric Wollberg, 'If you look at the history of Prophets, whether it's Abraham, Mohammed, or Buddha, they received their prophetic wisdom from dreams.' He continued, 'The goal here is to make anyone a prophet, to provide people with access to that prophetic knowledge, wisdom, and interface.'

Prophetic AI views lucid dreams as accelerators of consciousness, enabling the objective observation of the neural underpinnings of self-awareness, metacognition, and sensory perception.

According to a June 2020 report in Frontiers in Psychology, 50% of surveyed individuals experience lucid dreaming.

Wollberg revealed that the concept for Prophetic AI originated in 2018, following years of personal research and his own experiences as a self-professed lucid dreamer. He drew inspiration from the Axial Age period, identified by German philosopher Karl Jaspers in 1949, which witnessed significant shifts in religious, philosophical, and metaphysical thought across various locations from the 8th to the 3rd century BCE."

In March, Wesley Berry became the Chief Technology Officer of Prophetic AI, following his involvement in other neurotech ventures, such as the development of the Neurosity crown used by musician and AI enthusiast Grimes during her performance at the Ultra Music Festival.

Berry explained, "I placed the Neurosity crown on concert attendees and streamed their brainwaves and signals to the audience."

At the core of Prophetic AI's work lies the Halo, a headgear resembling a crown that employs ultrasound technology to target specific brain regions with greater precision than conventional electrode methods, as explained by Berry.

While some skeptics might dismiss the notion of reliably inducing lucid dreams through technology, Wollberg and Berry emphasized that their company is focused on defying expectations.

Berry elaborated, stating that Prophetic AI utilizes generative AI as a conduit to interpret dream data. "The generative AI acts like a medium," Berry told, "formulating words and sentences equivalent to our language model."

Wollberg outlined Prophetic AI's timeline, revealing their goal of releasing the Halo headsets in late 2025 after completing testing with institutions like the Netherlands-based Donders Institute and the UK-based research center TTP Group. Interested individuals can reserve Halos for $100 on the Prophetic AI website.

Acknowledging the hesitation some may have about reserving technology still years away from launch, Wollberg assured that the money is held in escrow until the Halos are released, with the $100 credited toward the final Halo device price. He explained, "The concept behind reservations is essentially building our order book, allowing us to partner with a top-tier manufacturer like Foxconn. That's the strategy behind it."

Setting aside metaphysical considerations, developers of artificial intelligence are facing heightened scrutiny from policymakers and advocacy groups, raising questions about the origins and usage of the data used to train AI models. In June, OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, committed $1 million to support initiatives focused on AI-driven cybersecurity. Following this commitment, in September, OpenAI issued an open call to "red teams," inviting them to identify vulnerabilities in its array of AI tools.

Wollberg acknowledges the crucial role of cybersecurity in technological advancements. He emphasizes Prophetic AI's dedication to ensuring user data security, aiming to alleviate concerns.

While lucid dreaming offers advantages, such as providing personal insights, resolving nightmares, and enhancing creative problem-solving abilities, the Sleep Foundation advises caution against continuous lucid dreaming. Prolonged lucid dreaming may disrupt sleep patterns and impact the mental health of individuals dealing with PTSD and nightmares.

Despite skepticism and criticism regarding the benefits of lucid dreaming, Prophetic AI remains steadfast in its mission. Wollberg stated, "We want individuals to feel they are part of a collective metaphysical journey, recognizing that all consciousness contributes to this data. We firmly believe that this information can significantly advance research on consciousness."
