Staying Calm Amidst Chaos

Whether it’s a pandemic, natural disaster or personal crisis, we all hit times in our life where we feel consumed by chaos. It can present as sadness, anxiety, fear, anger and many other ways. Instead of allowing yourself to be pulled into the darkness, try these 8 tips for staying grounded, focused and calm amidst chaos. 

1.    Limit exposure to media  (tv, internet, social media)

·      In this technological age, there is so much false information that can create fear and anxiety. 

·      Only tune into trusted news sources, such as government-run websites

2.    Spend time outdoors

·      Walking, jogging, hiking, breathing

·      Being present with nature

3.    Stay connected with a few good friends

·      Social distancing can make you feel isolated, increasing anxiety and frustration

·      Instead chose a few healthy friends to connect with in person or via facetime, phone, text

·      Check in on each other; we’re all in this together

4.    Exercise

·      Exercise, including yoga and meditation, to feel grounded and peaceful

5.    Eat Healthy

·      Make sure 70% of your diet is comprised of fruits and vegetables

6.    Stay Hydrated

·      Drink at least half your body weight in ounces  (If you weigh 150 pounds, you should be drinking 75 ounces of water each day)

7.    Sleep

·      7-8 hours each night

8.    Take long baths

·      Yes, even my male friends out there

·      Baths are proven to lower stress levels and are a lovely way to relax at the end of a long day
