Staying in You’re A-Game When Life Pulls You in Every Direction
Life can often feel like a constant juggling act—demands coming from all sides, leaving you stretched thin. Whether it’s work deadlines, family obligations, or personal commitments, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. But here's the thing: even when life pulls you in multiple directions, you always have a choice in how you respond.
One of the most important lessons from my book You Always Have a Choice is to acknowledge the power of mindset and decision-making, especially when things feel out of control. When you're juggling numerous responsibilities, taking control of your reactions and actions can help you stay on your A-game.
Here are some game-changing strategies that can make a big difference in managing life’s juggle and staying at your best.
1. Label Your Responsibilities
We all have numerous “balls” we’re juggling at any given moment, but not all are created equal. Some of these balls are made of crystal—precious and fragile, representing things like family, health, and relationships. If dropped, they could break and leave lasting damage. Others are rubber—they can bounce back when dropped, like certain work tasks or social obligations. And finally, some are concrete—they are heavy, draining, and you might not need to juggle them at all.
Take some time to identify which of your responsibilities are crystal, rubber, or concrete. This mental exercise allows you to prioritise what truly matters and recognise what you can let go of without guilt. Often, the things we stress over are not as fragile as we think, and it’s okay to let some bounce or drop entirely.
2. Embrace the Power of the Pause
When you're feeling overwhelmed, the instinct is often to push harder and keep going. But one of the most effective strategies is to pause. Pressing pause doesn’t mean you’re giving up; it means you’re taking a moment to reassess and reset. This concept, which I emphasise in You Always Have a Choice, is key to building resilience and maintaining clarity.
Pausing allows you to regain control over your emotions and actions. It provides the space needed to reflect on what’s working, what’s not, and how you want to move forward. This simple act of stepping back—whether it’s a 5-minute break, a deep breath, or a walk—can provide the mental clarity needed to keep going with purpose.
3. Set Boundaries and Stick to Them
Boundaries are essential for staying in control, especially when you’re being pulled in many directions. Without clear boundaries, you’ll find yourself saying yes to things that don’t align with your priorities or values, leading to unnecessary stress and overwhelm. Setting boundaries involves knowing your limits and being clear about what you can and cannot commit to.
It's so important to use your voice to set these boundaries and lead your life according to what matters most to you. Saying no isn’t selfish; it’s necessary for self-preservation and staying in control of your time and energy.

4. Recognise Your Mindset as a Superpower
Your mindset is your most powerful tool when it comes to managing life’s juggle. The way you think about and approach challenges will dictate your response and resilience. Adopting a mindset of empowerment and choice is transformative. Even in the midst of chaos, when it feels like you have no control, you always have a choice in how you perceive and respond to situations.
This shift in perspective helps you stay solution-focused, resilient, and in control. Instead of feeling like a victim of your circumstances, you become the leader of your own life, making empowered decisions that align with your goals and values.
5. Prioritise Self-Care
Juggling multiple responsibilities without taking care of yourself is a recipe for burnout. Self-care is not a luxury; it’s a necessity. Whether it’s carving out time for exercise, meditation, or simply taking a quiet moment for yourself, these small acts of self-care will keep you grounded and energised.
When you’re at your best, you can give your best to others. Prioritising self-care allows you to recharge so you can continue managing life’s demands effectively.
At the heart of it all is this truth: you always have a choice. Even when the demands of life feel overwhelming, you have the power to decide how you respond, how you manage your time, and what you prioritise. By labelling your responsibilities, embracing pauses, setting boundaries, and nurturing your mindset, you can stay on your A-game, no matter how many directions you’re pulled in.
Take control of the juggle, protect what matters most, and let go of what doesn’t serve you.
After all, life is too short to be juggling balls that don’t align with the life you want to lead.
