Stefan’s journey of success has only just begun
Stefan Reisinger saw an advertisement for a trainee position at Boliden and thought “this could be a great opportunity for me”.
Now he lives in Stockholm and feels that even more strongly.
“Boliden is a major player, but the work climate is still welcoming and familiar. They expect something from me and help me to achieve my own goals,” says Stefan.
As an Austrian, Stefan finds himself in an exciting new environment, especially where he lives in Stockholm, surrounded by water all day.
“The mountains, that’s the only thing I miss,” says Stefan, with a twinkle in his eye.
Despite that, he has found a home, together with his girlfriend and dog, just outside the city, and he enjoys the privilege of being close to nature while still having the hustle and bustle of city life within easy reach.
Based at the head office in Stockholm, he is part of the technology team for smelters, but his duties involve guiding and supporting all operations. His bachelor’s degree in mining, tunneling and mineral engineering as well as his masters degree in raw materials engineering, with focus on mineral processing, helps him to understand and navigate complex contexts. Currently, he is involved in a project that includes all the sites, something that appeals to him.
“Over the past few weeks, I’ve focused on developing a strong network of individuals from the various sites. The goal is to cooperate with them, create mutual understanding, and become familiar with their operations on a deeper level. I’d like a more comprehensive understanding of the different processes, so that’s what I’m hoping for,” says Stefan.

Stefan and his manager, Mika Forsberg, hold weekly meetings every Friday to check up on the situation, but sometimes they can be in touch every day. Stefan appreciates the trust that Mika has in him.
“It creates an atmosphere of trust and independence in which you can grow. Mika gives me the space to explore and act independently without constantly ‘monitoring’ me, which creates a sense of trust and responsibility. I always get in touch with him when I have questions, and he never says no when I suggest a trip or share my thoughts,” says Stefan.
He currently has trips planned to the smelters in Odda, Harjavalta and Rönnskär.
“For me, the challenges are learning the strengths of the different sites and how they can improve. It’s a bit like a fascinating puzzle in which every location and every topic is something new to explore. The hardest thing is seeing the big picture, but if I continue to get this support within the trainee program and be guided by great colleagues, then the future feels really positive.”
“I’m looking forward to it providing more personal development. I also hope to be able to contribute so that I can say that I gave my best to the company,” says Stefan.
