Our Story 📖 Began ✍️

         The Night We Met ✨🥀✨

She was out there… all alone… just standing on a dark parking lot… at a closed department store…

        that was the first I had met her…

                  ~~🥀~~

             The Year was 1985…

Back then… we used to cruise the mall… just to see all of our friends… it was always after hours so we wouldn’t bother anyone… it’s just what us kids did… making noise… cutting up… having fun… and making those memories…

So one night… a bunch of us guys had gathered in front of the big department store… it was down on the south end of the strip… a good ways from the rest of the action… we had been out there for awhile… and it was getting late…

But all of the sudden… something came up… getting most everyone excited… and several of the guys jumped into just a couple of cars… then tore out across the parking lot…

I wasn’t going with them… as I had to work the next day… so as I was about to drive off… thinking I was the last one there… but out the corner of my eye… I seen her standing there…

She was all alone… with her head hanging down… and as I glanced across the parking lot… I realized… we definitely were the only ones still out there…

She was on a date with one of our friends… one that had just gotten into a car and took off… not saying a word to her… not that he was leaving… nor when they might get back… she was just standing next to his car…

It was dark that time of night… some of the streetlights lights had been turned off… probably when the store closed at 9:00 pm… just a few cars were remaining on the parking lot… those were from the guys that had just left…

It was pushing 10:30 by that time… and I should have been going home… but back when I was young… I was brought up with manners… to never leave a damsel… in distress…

So I walked over… leaning up against the car… positioned right beside her… we stood there talking… learning little things about each other… finding out we had been attending to the same high school… but this was the first time that I had noticed her… because she would have been a freshman… back when I was a senior… but it was funny… when she made it very clear… that she had graduated earlier in the year…

She was a sweet little girl… and very cute… with long curls in her hair… hanging down just passed her shoulders… and a smile… that had just stolen my heart…

That’s when she told me… she had had a crush on me back in high school… but was too shy to say anything… and literally… that’s when the guys showed up again… returning from that wild little trip… forgetting about the date they left behind… it was close to 11:30pm by then…

So as they got out of the cars… I asked her date right in front of everyone… why did he leave such a beautiful girl standing all alone on a parking lot… everyone started chucking… giving him shit about it… but each one of them knew… the group of guys hanging around together… wasn’t any better with how they treated their girls…

She told him right then… that she should have already been home… but being a jerk… it never crossed his mind… and she began getting very upset… with tears in her eyes… when she looked at me and asked… “would you please take me home…”

That was 38 years ago… I was at her house almost every day after that… and just two months in… I asked her to marry me… she said “Yes…” and just four months later…

             has lasted a lifetime…

        I lost a few friends that night…

                    but I found the one…

           that would forever…

                 change my life…
