Storytelling - Fraud Style
All of us need to be aware of the signs of fraud, as anyone can fall victim to it.
What is Fraud?
The term ‘fraud’ is an umbrella term for crimes that vary in nature.
Fraud is when someone tricks or deceives you to gain a dishonest advantage – usually money, goods, services or property. Many words can be used to describe fraud, such as scam, con, swindle, extortion, sham, double-cross, hoax, and cheat. Fraud is not only a problem in the UK it is a global concern.
In England, Wales, and Northern Ireland most offences come under the Fraud Act 2006.
The effects of fraud
Fraud is a serious crime that can cause both financial and non-financial harm. The impact of fraud can be devastating, affecting victims physically, psychologically and socially. Fraud not only causes immense stress for families and businesses but also damages the economy as a whole. It is important to remember that fraud is not a victimless crime and can have long-lasting consequences for those affected.
Things to remember about fraud.
It affects every level of society. It harms individuals, organisations, businesses and our local communities. Even if you are not the victim, it is important to recognise that Fraud costs everyone – both through direct impact and indirectly through taxation and increased cost of products and services.
The Power of Storytelling
Our best defence is to stay informed, alert, and secure. Financial fraud or scams are real and can affect anyone at any time. On this page, we share some real stories told via documentaries from different perspectives including the victim’s perspective of financial frauds and scams that have happened to them.
Storytelling is unique and such a powerful medium to support us in educating a huge demographic of people we might not be able to reach otherwise.

11moWhat have I learned from? It’s been a while brewing (like the ginger beer my dad made when I was too young to try any) but I am thrilled to be able to say that I learned a huge amount from designing and co delivering the HiveRisk 'CDD cracking the offshore code” webinar. If you concerned about CDD and we all should be then consider having a look. Alongside Kate Burt and Gavin Ball I help shine a light on the issues inherent with obtaining satisfactory CDD on offshore clients. The session is peppered with illustrations and offers both insights and advice. The recording is now available to purchase too. Videos - HiveRisk - Risk & Compliance Consultancy
