Stranger Things and AI
"In times of change learners inherit the earth; while the learned find themselves beautifully equipped to deal with a world that no longer exists." - Eric Hoffer
Though change is a constant in the world, there are times where change is more rapid and disruptive than others.
The era we find ourselves in currently is one of those times of rapid change.
It is both exciting and scary simultaneously.
I saw a poll recently in which people were asked to respond TRUE or FALSE to the statement AI Can't Do My Job.
67% of folks answered TRUE.
That may or may not be an accurate reflection of reality. But, if it is, that means that 33% of people MUST learn new skills!
Personally, I believe that, as AI advances, the percentage of jobs currently being done by humans that AI actually can do will increase dramatically.
To thrive in the age of AI requires new knowledge and different skills.
One of those essential skills is Purposeful Creative Thinking.
If you read this Newsletter on a regular basis, it will come as no surprise to you that our company, SpearPoint Solutions, offers multiple options for essential training in this skill set.
But, even if you never have access to our training, you can learn some of the basics of Purposeful Creative Thinking by reading this Newsletter each week.
Here's a good example.
Last week on the LinkedIn Live show called Thriving in the Modern Economy that Chad Johnson and I co-host our guest was Woosh Marketing Consultants Founder David Rosenberg .
Prior to going live on that episode, both David and I used a Purposeful Creative Thinking method called Combinatory Play to generate ideas for a product, service or business.
Combinatory Play
To understand how the Combinatory Play method of Purposeful Creative Thinking works, you first need to understand that people don’t think in words, they think in pictures.
When you think about the word dog a picture of a dog pops into your mind.
You see the word kitchen, the image of a kitchen.
But, when you combine those words - DOG + KITCHEN - new possibilities begin to form.
That is especially true if, as we do in our gamified company training, challenge people to come up with an idea for a new product, service or business. (or an improvement on something already in existence)
In developing ideas to present on the show last week, I used random words drawn from the Purposeful Creative Thinking game I invented, What's The BIG Idea?
As stated above, I then made two-word combinations to put my Knowledge, Experience and Imagination to work on developing ideas.
The words I had to choose from to make my combinations were:
I came up ideas by using the following combinations.
Stranger Poster
A method of posting on social media in which you use lines or characters from popular shows or movies.
Like Stranger Things, Suits, Ozark, etc.
These shows should be ones you personally like. Not everyone will resonate with them. But, you will have something immediately in common with those who do.
Ornament Elevator
This is a service which decorates the elevators, lobbies and other common areas of commercial buildings. Each building supplies it’s own decorations and this company does the work of putting up and taking down.
Their expertise in the process as well as the best ways to decorate for different seasons around the calendar provides a touch folks in-house do not have. Beyond that, there is no need to have on staff employees away from their regular duties.
Another potential source of revenue: Because they serve many different buildings, if clients desire, they can sell them the decorations at pricing significantly below retail prices.
Telephone Children
A modern day version of the old pen pal concept. Children from around the world connect on phone calls to learn about each other; culture, what their their day to day life is like, food they eat, etc. This is made possible by improving real-time translation software.
This will promote better understanding and empathy as well as potentially forming life-long bonds that may benefit all in adult life.
It would be a natural fit for a communications company/companies to provide and would make for tremendous PR and even marketing to the parents of the children that utilize it.
***************
To witness the power of presenting ideas in a group environment, I strongly encourage you to watch the episode of the LinkedIn Live I referenced above.
There, you will see how even a small group can expand on those ideas in meaningful ways. [check it here]
Watching that episode, you will also see the outstanding ideas David Rosenberg came up with.
Btw, David used the process that is contained in the educational digital publication we sell on our site called Seeing The Invisible So You Can Do The Impossible. It features TWELVE Purposeful Creative Thinking methods!
While different and slightly more time consuming than using the What's The BIG Idea? game, you will see how effective the Combinatory Play process featured in that digital resource is by watching that episode. (David came up with a product idea he intends to pursue!)

Without a doubt, another must-have skill set for those who hope to thrive in the modern economy is the effective and efficient use of AI.
