If I asked you on a scale of 1-10 how you felt about managing social media for your business, what would your answer be?

My guess is you’d answer similarly to most of the founders I know. Somewhere around a 5 or less.

But here is the more important question:

Why has social media begun to feel like such a necessary evil?

Here’s the truth of the matter:

What used to be posting a few times a week on 1 or 2 platforms has ballooned into what feels like a never-ending to do list of tasks that require you or your team to be able to edit videos on demand, churn out multiple stories and posts a day, and potentially be posting on 3+ platforms.

It’s overwhelming—for many brands the results of the endless effort can feel underwhelming, if not exhausting, compared to the effort you’re putting in.

But here’s the secret:

It doesn’t have to be this way.

I know because I still manage to sanely navigate my 3 social media accounts, and my team supports our brand and clients across dozens of others.

The key to actually staying sane and finding success on social media is simple, and it's the thing most people aren’t doing.

It isn’t about posting more.

It’s about starting with strategy.

Strategy-centric social media means you spend less time guessing if your content is relevant or going to land because you actually understand what motivates your audience.

It means posting content less frequently on fewer platforms, because you’re laser focused on the content and customers that make the most sense for your brand.

It means not wasting your days editing endless videos or researching hashtags, because you have the tools, processes, and plan in place to ensure your social media is as efficient as it is effective.

Remember, when things feel hard, whether it’s your social media or something else entirely, ask yourself:

Does it have to be this way?

Chances are the answer might just lead to a better, brighter outcome.

Happy posting,

 — Madeline Reeves
