-Strength for Today- “The Sovereignty of God.” - Psalm 90:2.
What does it mean to say “God is sovereign?” The word promotes the reality of God’s divine “providence personage,” expressed in Psalm 90:2: "Before the mountains were born, before You gave birth to the earth and the world, from eternity to eternity, you are God." So, “the diamond of truth” about “God’s sovereignty” is that He has the “right” and “power” to do “all that He decides to do”- Jeremiah 32:27. 1 Timothy 6:16 tells us that God: “Only hath immorality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; nor whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honor and power everlasting. Amen.
His resume’, “just like space” is “indestructibly nonexistence,” yet we’re shown that: "He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together," (Colossians 1:17), and Hebrews 1:3 says that “Jesus Christ is the brightness of His glory, and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the Word of His power, when He had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.”
To His “finiteness,” the psalmist said: "Lord, You have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I stand up; You understand my thoughts from far away. You observe my travels and my rest; You are aware of all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue, You know all about it, Lord." -Psalm 139:1-4. Additionally, He’s “the Lord of host,” (Isaiah 14:24), and rules over all things. In Daniel 4:34-35, the most powerful man on earth decided to take on God. When God was through with him, here’s what he said: “And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honored Him that liveth forever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and His kingdom is from generation to generation: And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and He doeth according to His will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay His hand, or say unto Him, What have You done?”
To say that God is sovereign is to say He’s “unrivaled in majesty,” “unlimited in power” and “knowledge,” and “unaffected by anything outside of His divine Personage.” He’s “outside of time,” and nothing will enter “yours” or “my life” that God doesn’t either “decree” or “permit.” Yet this “sovereign King” loves us (John 3:16), and want us to “seek,” and “rely,” on His “comprehensive” and “ultimate promises that “only He can keep.”
For example, the incredible promise of Romans 8:28: “We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God: those who are called according to His purpose.” What He’s guaranteeing is that He can take “all the events,” “all the situations,” related to “whatever difficult circumstance we're in,” and “create an outcome” that’ll brings about good, “not only for you,” but in the lives of every person touching those circumstances who’re believers in Jesus Christ.
Only “a sovereign can do that.” The late S.M. Lockridge would say, “Hey, that's my King!” So, if no plan of God's "can be accomplished by human actions” or “acts of nature,” if God “rides every storm” and “directs all things” with “purpose for His glory” and “yours” and “my good,” then He’s “worthy to be trusted” with “every fiber of our being!”
