Success Is Achieved When Hard Work Meets Luck

Success Is Achieved When Hard Work Meets Luck

Only if you believe you are lucky, life will give you opportunities to succeed. Don’t believe me? Read below.

From Russels Peter getting accidentally viral to Bill Gates getting special access to computer facilities in school, a couple of success stories I shared have a common pattern. A pattern where opportunity knocks the door which is later turned to success with preparedness and hard work.

Here is another piece of inspirational story that follows the very same pattern.

How Sunil Gavaskar Made His Debut?

Sunil Gavaskar got his first break on 6 March 1971 in Port Of Spain. He made his debut as an Indian Cricket team member with the test series against West Indies. The very first match he played got India a victory.

In an interview, he said due to a nail injury he lost his first-ever opportunity to play the test match in Jamaica. He continued, even if he played the match his chances for selection were slim to none as the opening batsman in that game Kenia Jayanthilal was much more senior and accomplished than him. But, it's not the game of hard work alone. Jayantilal, fell off a brilliant catch by Sir Garfield Sobers while Sunil Gavaskar’s career prospered after the same Sobers dropped a dolly and he made a debut.

The rub of the green as they say was with Gavaskar and against Jayantilal who never got another opportunity to play for India. Not out at 67, Sunil contributed to the victory of that game, and the rest is too well known for me to add anything new.

From getting an opportunity through luck to gaining success out of it with preparedness and hard work, isn't the story following the same pattern?

Be Prepared For The Opportunity

Let's analyze how many times have opportunities knocked on our doors and how did we welcome those opportunities.

It is said a great opportunity never knocks twice. Yes, it is true. Getting a chance is just a single step up the ladder. Although it is incredibly important to get exposed to the right opportunity, preparedness and hard work will further take you up the ladder of success.

In a survey, Prof. Richard Wiseman (a renowned psychologist and the author of The Luck Factor) found out that people who believe they are lucky tend to grab more opportunities than people who believe they are unlucky. With this positivity in life, people welcome the opportunities with open arms leading them to infinite success.

Do You Believe You Are Lucky? - Conclusion

You certainly need the luck to make big things happen. Keeping an open mind to opportunities and visualizing you are lucky to get this chance will always keep you motivated. You do not know when the stars will turn into your favour. Most often successful people talk about the very first chance they got and then move upwards with their story. Luck is important when you sell yourself to the opportunity. Rest, you know how to use your skills to achieve success.
