Suno vs Udio: Which One Reigns in AI Music?

Suno vs Udio: Which One Reigns in AI Music?

Gen AI in music production is undoubtedly the buzzword of the moment. A few weeks ago, Suno took the spotlight. And now, Udio is creating its own buzz. As an AI enthusiastic, though a music amateur, I find it intriguing to compare the two from the perspective of an ordinary user.

  • User interface -🏆Suno: The interface of Suno is similar to social media or Spotify, presenting users with trending songs across various categories. Additionally, it features an 'Explore' function that offers samples from a myriad of music genres, aiding in the discovery of inspirations. The access to the Discord is prominently displayed on the homepage, creating a sense of community. On the other hand, Udio's interface is loaded with songs, prioritizing functionality over discoverability. Moreover, there is room For Udio to enhance its recommendation system.
  • Sound quality -🏆Suno: Udio offers higher bitrates and lossless audio support, delivering a superior auditory experience compared to Suno’s standard audio quality. Nonetheless, Suno's voice replication closely mimics that of an actual human to me, so it still earns my vote.
  • Music length -🏆Suno: Suno crafted a song lasting ~2 minutes, featuring a full structure suitable for a standalone track. In contrast, Udio created a 33-second clip. By extending this clip, it reaches about 1 minute, serving more as a sample for remixing into a full song. For amateur users, I recommend Suno.
  • Creator Tools - 🏆Udio: For beginners, Suno offers an intuitive user experience, accessible through natural language commands. On the other hand, Udio appears to be geared more towards professional music producers, offering advanced tools and monetization opportunities for audio content creators.
  • Personal preference - 🏆Suno: I just like the songs on Suno better. I composed R&B songs for Randy Lim to wish his success on his presentation at SIOP conference on both platforms. The style of the Suno song resonates with me, and the lyrics perfectly articulate my thoughts (link to my Suno song). On the other hand, the Udio song has over general lyrics (link to my Udio song).

Overall, if I am going to pick one to pay a subscription, I will pick Suno. However, the AI music landscape is rapidly evolving, and I'm confident that both platforms will continue to innovate and roll out exciting new features in the near future.

It's an exciting time for the music industry, as AI promises to revolutionize the creative process and open up new avenues for artistic expression. Suno and Udio are undoubtedly frontrunners. However, we may also see dark horse contenders emerge, potentially from the tech giants like Google, Apple, or Amazon, who have vast resources and expertise in AI.

Whichever company emerges as the leader, the real winners will be artists and music enthusiasts who gain access to powerful new tools for musical exploration and creation.

I guess both do a good job one slightly easier (suno), the other for better/more editing options (udio). But imo there is an important aspect of commercial use you mustn't overlook. Udios results can be used commercially also with the free plan! Suno requires you to get at least the Pro plan to are allowed to cash out 😌 happy generating 🤘

I've only used Suno so far, and I'm rec trying it at work now. I like the variation I can get from Suno, but I still can't fine tune enough. Like what if I want something like the Friends I'll Be There For You song. Thx for the comparison! 🎹

I definitely also suggest understanding the Ts and Cs. On my review, the Udio Ts and Cs look oppressive. Is it right that if any use is made of Udio in song production, it needs to be credited in Spotify etc?
