Most of us are still mentally stuck in 2020, but it's already 2023. I don’t believe this myself. But it’s a fact.
As we welcome the fresh new year of 2023, let’s embrace the habits and traits that will lead us to a life remembered by generations.
As a Superhero, you have the power to make a difference in the world, but it all starts with making the most of your own life.
Here are six anti-rules for life victories in 2023:
- Be Anti-Average: Average is the enemy of excellence. Don't settle for the standards set by the crowd. Instead, strive for higher standards and abide by the wisest values, including honesty, courage, patience, understanding, mastery, and kindness. Select activities that fuel your joy and accelerate your growth. Push work that is masterful and exemplify possibility. For example, instead of just going through the motions at work, strive to create something truly impactful and meaningful.
- Be Anti-Superficial: In a world where 10-second Instagram Reels are consumed by millions, it's important to go deep rather than wide. Have rich conversations, think interesting thoughts, and apply rigor, excellence, and carefulness to all that you do. Be a heavyweight in a culture gone ultra-light. For instance, instead of just scrolling through social media mindlessly, take the time to read a book that will challenge your perspective and expand your knowledge.
- Be Anti-Cynical: Dreams get done every day, and human beings have a gigantic capacity to accomplish the extraordinary. Avoid the cynicism that too many good souls have allowed to cloud their sensibility to life's wonderful beauty. For example, instead of dismissing a new idea or opportunity as impossible, keep an open mind and see the potential in it.
- Be Anti-Injustice: Life is too short to tolerate any form of mistreatment and disrespect in your orbit. If you see someone being hurt, step up. And don't allow anyone to dishonor the magic that is you. You are special, essential, and important to the world. Own it.
- Be Anti-Interruption: It's easy to spend our limited days on earth in useless toil rather than majestic flow. Turn off your devices for at least a few hours each day and for a full day each week. Work in quietude on a big problem that will revolutionize the lives of those you serve. Live with greater silence, serenity, and presence.
- Be Anti-Fear: In 2023, strive to become a real Superhero. Do more of the things you fear. Each time you do, you take back the power that you gave to it and grow more fearless. This is a practice, so the more you train on leaning into what terrifies you the better you'll get at it. For example, instead of avoiding public speaking, seek out opportunities to speak in front of an audience.
Would you like to live like this? Loving each day with enthusiasm, confidence, gratitude, and awareness? You can.
