If this was a supplement, you'd hand me your card details immediately...

When your alarm went off this morning did you feel excited to jump out of bed, or exhausted and needing more sleep?

I’m not a gambler but I’d place my bets on the latter.

See, your type of role comes with the following:

  • High stress
  • Pressure
  • Long working hours
  • Poor dietary choices
  • Lack of exercise
  • Sedentary lifestyle

“Why are you reminding us of this Ben?”

Because these factors all have a negative impact on your sleep quality - sadly.

I want you to imagine your sleep on your last holiday/vacation...

How well rested did you feel in comparison to now?

Less stress, likely more daylight, more walking?

It’s no coincidence that your sleep was better.

Whilst we can’t be on a permanent holiday we can definitely create a routine that sets you up for the best sleep possible.

I will lift the curtain and allow you to see what I recommend to my clients to improve their sleep:

  • No work activity 60 minutes before bed
  • No phone in your room (use an alarm clock to wake you)
  • Take a hot shower 15 minutes before bed
  • Be sure to write an action plan for the day to follow
  • Keep a notepad beside your bed so any intrusive thoughts or last minute ideas can be written down and dealt with tomorrow
  • Wake up at the same time everyday! This is arguably the most important - it will regulate your circadian rhythm and often aligns your bedtime as a byproduct.

Without boring you with endless details here I’ll summarise the importance of sleep for you…

  • Your brain operates at a different level when it has good sleep: meaning clear decision making, better memory and improved communication.
  • You will have greater energy physically and mentally: meaning greater output and ability to shoulder more stress, as well as having less cravings.
  • You recover far better, again physically and mentally: leaving your body better positioned for exercise and more resilient to stress/pressure.

I could keep going but I know how busy you are.

So that’s a short snapshot of some benefits to good sleep.

If you have any questions around your own sleeping routine then feel free to drop a question in the comments below or even send me a message.

I’m more than happy to help where I can.
