Just prior to Christmas 2022, we had a frustrated and very stressed couple contact us asking for help with purchasing their new home.  Their story is unique in that they had a very small window of opportunity to find and purchase their new home.  

This unfortunate couple were living in Grantham Qld, and have been victims of the 2011, 2013 and 2022 floods.  They had lost their personal belongings multiple times.  Each time they get back on their feet, another flood impacts their family home and destroys their personal belongings.  In November 2022, they received notification that they were fortunate enough to be able to participate in the resilient homes buy back scheme.  Not wanting to endure another flood, they decided that this was the chance to escape the destruction and mental strain that they had been suffering.

A building and pest inspection was undertaken and it was noted that some minor repairs were needed. This was not a deterrent to them, and an offer was made.  The offer was accepted within 4 hours without the need to negotiate and saving them a WHOPPING $70,000.00 off the list price.  They were Ecstatic!!  A settlement date was agreed upon and my clients commenced the arduous process of obtaining finance and activating the buyback scheme on their current home.  Melinda referred them to a high-quality Conveyancer to assist with the sale of their current home under the buyback scheme, and purchase of their new home.

Christmas arrived, and all Government bodies were on 3-week vacation, they were unable to contact anyone to obtain updates on their scheme application process and their finance clause due date was bearing down.  Stress hit.  With the support of Melinda and guidance from their amazing conveyancer, an extension was arranged.  Unfortunately, they had to extend a further two times due to the Government holding up the purchase of the existing home under the buyback scheme.  One phone call by Melinda on the client's behalf, to the relevant Government body, resulted in escalation of their buy back application for the sale of their existing home and they were able to satisfy the finance clause on their contract to purchase and they were officially unconditional on their new home.  They have since moved into their new home and are looking forward to making new memories, without the threat of floods looming every time it rains.
