🌱 Tadweer Group to build Material Recovery Facility in Abu Dhabi

Tadweer Group has announced the closed bidding for the development of Abu Dhabi’s first greenfield Material Recovery Facility (MRF). The facility will recover recyclable materials derived from municipal solid waste, significantly maximising the diversion of waste from landfill through recycling and preparing feedstock for the Abu Dhabi Waste to Energy facility. This will enable increased recycling, promoting a circular economy and supporting Tadweer Group’s wider ambition of diverting 80% of Abu Dhabi’s waste away from landfill by 2030. Read more

🌱 LEGO employee pay now linked to meeting climate goals

the LEGO Group has become the most recent corporate giant to tie its compensation packages to progress toward its climate goals — specifically, reducing its operational carbon emissions. But LEGO’s move is unique in that it’s applying the new performance-management program not just to its senior leadership. It will incentivize and reward its entire global, salaried workforce for contributing to its carbon-reduction targets. Read more

🌱 Unilever recently made major updates to its sustainability objectives

Unilever ever now plans to reduce its use of virgin plastic by 30% by 2026, and 40% by 2028 – as well as revising the projected end date of its goals to make 100% of its plastic packaging reusable, recyclable or compostable to 2030 for rigid solutions, and 2035 for flexibles. The distinction between different types of material is an important acknowledgement of how hard to recycle flexibles sometimes are, and how much work is still needed in this sector. Read more

🌱 Plastic bottles in Europe are changing because of new EU directive

The new design is quite straightforward. Instead of the caps we are used to that screw fully off, there are extra strips of plastic connecting the cap to the bottle. The Coca-Cola Company has been one of the first to embrace the change as they have rolled the design out across Europe in the last year or so. This small change has the potential to have a big impact, ensuring that consumers recycle bottles, and no cap gets left behind. Read more
