Sustainability… and SDG

Sustainability… and SDG

At Bayer, we are deeply committed to these goals, and it is inspiring to see our products and initiatives impact improving people's lives and well-being. Day by day, we are progressing our contribution towards a more sustainable future, and I am proud to be a part of that journey. While we touch several SDGs, we have the strongest impact on seven of them. Today, I would like to focus on three of the seven we committed to: Good Health & Well-being (SDG 3), Clean Water & Sanitation (SDG 6), and Climate Action (SDG 13)

SDG 3 - Good health and well-being - Bayer's products directly impact people's health, some prevent diseases, and others treat illnesses. By 2030, by filling the gaps in self-care for 100 million people in economically or medically underserved communities and fulfilling the need of 100 million women in LMICs for modern contraception each year.

SDG 6 - I have had the honor to be part of a team that worked on Bayer's milestone new water strategy this year. We've pledged to make water an integral part of our business and investment decisions across the entire value chain, knowing that agriculture uses 70% of available freshwater. One of our game-changing strategies is to improve water use per kilogram of crop by 25% by 2030, by transforming rice-cropping systems for smallholder customers in the relevant regions where Bayer operates.

SDG 13 - We also pursue a climate protection and decarbonization strategy that aligns with the Paris Agreement. We are reducing our greenhouse gas emissions (Scopes 1 & 2) and greenhouse gas emissions along our value chain (Scope 3). To achieve this, we are about to implement a number of measures focusing on energy efficiency, energy sources, offsetting, and the value chain.

And every step counts. It empowering to see how even small changes in our daily routines can significantly impact promoting and aligning with the SDGs. I've made it my personal mission to contribute towards these goals, as my commitment to the next generation. While corporations are responsible for supporting these efforts, we all can make a positive difference by working together.

While it's important to recognize the strides Bayer's made in addressing several SDGs, I know there's still plenty of work to do, both at Bayer and in my day-to-day life. I'm excited to continue addressing this necessary work and encourage each of you to think about where you can make an impact— however small it may seem.

So true Cristina. Aligning our goals with SDGs is a surefire way to get the necessary planning in place to succeed.
