Sustainable Packaging Newsletter #63 How2Recycle EVENT!

Sustainable Packaging Newsletter #63 How2Recycle EVENT!

Are you ready for all the changes in packaging and recycling, like EPR legislation, recyclability shifts, and even “label laws”?

This October, I’m heading to the How2Recycle Summit, where I’ll get together with packaging and recycling experts to understand the changing recycling landscape.

If you’re not familiar, the member-only How2Recycle event will convene in Chicago from October 2 - 3. At the How2Recycle Summit, stakeholders from across the value supply chain will work toward solutions to some of the most pressing challenges in sustainability and recycling today.

How2Recycle members can register here. And if you want to check out my conversation with GreenBlue Executive Director Paul Nowak and Brandi Parker where we talk all things How2Recycle Summit and label refresh, you can check out this episode of the Sustainable Packaging Podcast.

In this newsletter, I’ll dive into more on the How2Recycle Summit—what we need to learn, what to look forward to, and what’s in it for members.

What we’ll learn…

As EPR legislation changes the world of packaging and recycling operations, the industry needs to adapt to these changes. With more than 800 members, the How2Recycle program is preparing to usher in a new era of on-pack disposal instruction. At the How2Recycle Summit, they’ll unveil progress on their refreshed label design.

How will labels change on packaging?

Data will also play a key role in their label’s evolution. Dynamic labels informed by real-time, location-specific data could be the solution to meeting both regulatory requirements and consumer education needs. With sessions covering data, dynamic labeling, and legal “recyclability,” we’ll learn what the future of on-pack labeling looks like.

Looking forward to…

At the How2Recycle Summit, we’ll get a sneak peek into the future of sustainable shopping. How? Quad is producing a How2Recycle Summit Marketplace with Package InSight, where we’ll walk through the aisles of a sustainability-forward retail space, rank packaging and signage, and see in real-time how biometric tools like eye tracking can inform consumer experience.

The event will also have a How2Recycle Summit Speakeasy, with a mix of informative and trivia stations. And when you venture outside, the How2Recycle team will take you on tours across Chicago. At places like the Pregis Innovation Headquarters (IQ) and the SC Johnson-sponsored Blue Paradox Exhibit, we’ll get to see the nuts and bolts and the global impacts of sustainable packaging.

What’s in it for members…

At the How2Recycle Summit, attendees will hear from packaging and recycling experts from the How2Recycle team plus organizations like Aura, Quad, and P&G as we navigate this pivotal point in the history of recycling.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to be heard—with R&D and Member Services kiosks, members can capitalize on the facetime with the How2Recycle team to better understand their label, recyclability, and regulatory compliance.

If you haven’t made plans to attend the How2Recycle Summit yet, I hope you do! Register here and you can catch me there or at SPC Advance where we can dive deeper into the world of sustainable packaging!
