The Sustainable Revolution: Archer Announces OEM Partnership with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Ushering in the Age of Urban Air Mobility

By Brett Adcock and Adam Goldstein, co-founders, Archer

In the last decade, we've seen a mass migration to cities, but the infrastructure hasn't kept up. We're now entering the next transportation era, and Archer is leading the way, reducing urban transportation stressors and the environmental issues that come with it. When we started Archer, we set out to create a company in which environmental protection and the speed of transit were not mutually exclusive, culminating in our fully electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. Traveling 60 miles at speeds of up to 150 mph, we enable quick, safe, sustainable travel while curbing carbon emissions, decreasing traffic, and ultimately creating the multimodal transportation networks of the future.

Today, Archer is pleased to announce an OEM agreement with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) that will bring this vision to life. A first-of-its-kind deal for one of Detroit’s Big Three automakers, Archer will now have access to FCA’s low-cost supply chain, advanced composite material capabilities, and engineering and design experience, driving Archer toward the capacity to volume manufacture eVTOL aircraft in 2023. We believe that now is the time to build for the future, and partnering with one of the world’s largest automotive companies is a crucial step on our journey to revolutionizing urban transportation.

Manufacturing at scale is one of the key hurdles in bringing urban air mobility to the masses – both for Archer and for the industry at large. By moving outside of the aerospace industry to lean on an industry rooted in mass production - automotive manufacturing - Archer will lead the way in producing the hundreds of thousands, and eventually millions, of vehicles needed for effective urban air mobility networks. We believe our partnership with FCA will bring us one step closer to the reality of affordable, wide-spread urban air mobility.

We dream of a future that moves past convenience and affordability to include the possibilities of micro-exploration - untethering yourself from your every day and seeing more of the world on your own doorstep. Someday soon, Archer will allow people to take to the sky as a means to explore the world that surrounds them. Whether they’re commuting to work, visiting a nearby city, or retreating into nature, we’ll bring daily adventure to passengers through quick, safe, sustainable flights. Our work with FCA will make this mission a reality and will help accelerate Archer as a leader in the next era of transportation.

Finally someone in startup world understanding how hard it is to scale if you are on your own in a high performance transportation bussiness. Clever move & you will be able to design your aerial vehicle like a product appealing to mass kudos to Archer
