Systems Thinking and LEGO® Serious Play®: Elements to enhance in facilitation

Considerations extracted from our LEGO® Serious Play® Level-Up Course.

Incorporating Systems Thinking into LEGO® Serious Play® thus transforms it into a powerful tool for addressing complex challenges, fostering creativity, and driving meaningful innovation. This approach not only helps in solving immediate problems but also builds the capacity for participants to think systemically in future endeavors.

🔔 Holistic Perspective:

Systems Thinking enables participants to see the "big picture," considering how individual components and their interactions contribute to the overall system. This comprehensive view helps in identifying root causes of problems rather than just addressing symptoms.

🔔 Interconnectedness:

By using Systems Thinking, participants can map out the connections between various elements, understanding how changes in one part of the system affect others. This interconnected perspective fosters more effective and sustainable solutions.

🔔 Collaborative Insight:

LEGO® Serious Play® sessions, driven by Systems Thinking, encourage diverse groups to collaboratively build and discuss models representing complex systems. This collaborative approach leverages multiple viewpoints, leading to richer insights and more innovative solutions.

🔔 Dynamic Problem-Solving:

Systems Thinking helps participants to anticipate potential consequences of different actions, allowing for more strategic and forward-thinking problem-solving. It emphasizes feedback loops and iterative learning, which are crucial for adapting to changes and continuous improvement.

🔔 Visual and Tangible Representation:

Using LEGO bricks to build models of systems provides a tangible and visual representation of abstract concepts. This physical manifestation helps participants to better grasp complex ideas, making Systems Thinking more accessible and engaging.

Yes.  It is important to know how to manage the work of the participants in generating, reading, and consolidating the lessons learned in creating systems.

Pere Juarez Vives one could almost ask, is it even possible to not have system thinking during a LSP session? We as LSP-Agile think that it is a key element in your facilitator skill set. There for it is part of our curriculum 😀
