🇭🇰 A full round-up of the Asia-Pacific Superyacht Summit 2024
The inaugural Asia-Pacific Superyacht Summit drew to a close, with around 200 delegates registered from Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and Europe. Taking place at the Renaissance Harbour View Hotel in Hong Kong, the two-day event aimed to develop the Asian superyacht market and attract more yachts to the region.
Organised by SuperYacht Times, under the patronage of Simpson Superyachts, the groundbreaking event serves as a catalyst for fostering collaboration and innovation within the superyacht sector, paving the way for enhanced opportunities and growth across the Asia-Pacific region.
Day one included talks such as managing & operating yachts in the Asia-Pacific, building a yacht charter fleet in Asia, how to get more yachts in Asia-Pacific and develop a charter market, how Dubai became a hub for UHWNI superyachts and selling superyachts in Asia.
Day two provided more insightful topics and discussions from expert panellists. Talks included the Business of Marinas: How to build a successful marina in Asia, how European yacht builders try to attract more Asian clients, creating a charter market in Indonesia with phinisi yachts, the future of yacht construction in Asia, navigating the new-build journey and travelling off the beaten track.
The two-day event then concluded with event partner Damen Yachting’s Managing Director, Rose Damen providing a keynote interview on the value of the Asia-Pacific region, the yard's strategy over the coming years and the changing landscape of the superyacht construction sector.

🇧🇷 CEO Roberta Ramalho on her takeover of Intermarine at 18 and the Brazilian yacht market
Intermarine, located in Osasco, São Paulo, Brazil, originally specialised in manufacturing offshore vessels. However, when Gilberto Ramalho acquired the shipyard in 1985, he transformed it significantly. Described as a 'visionary,' Gilberto aimed to not only own a shipyard but also create and develop a new yachting market in Brazil.
In 2009, Gilberto Ramalho passed away, and his daughter, Roberta Ramalho, assumed the role of CEO at the young age of 18, becoming one of the youngest leaders in the yacht manufacturing industry at that time. SuperYacht Times writer Enrico Chhibber engaged in an extensive discussion with CEO Roberta Ramalho and Rafael Paiao, the Vice President of Growth and Marketing. The conversation delved into the history and evolution of Intermarine, explored the nuances of the Brazilian yachting market in comparison to other global markets, and discussed Intermarine's strategic plans for the future.

🌊 Braving the Red Sea with 85m Bold’s captain Benn Weatherseed
As highlighted in a recent article examining the effects of regional instability in the Red Sea on the superyacht sector, there have been a number of superyachts that have opted to reroute around the Cape of Good Hope in pursuit of safer passage. This strategic shift primarily stems from concerns over potential targeting and the substantial rise in insurance premiums for vessels transiting the Red Sea. The Houthis have been targeting vessels passing through the area as a result of the recent escalating regional conflict between Israel and Iran and its affiliated non-state actors.
Despite heightened risks, some superyachts continue to navigate the Red Sea. Last month, the 85.3-metre Silver Yachts superyacht Bold navigated this perilous route from the Asia-Pacific region to the Mediterranean, arriving just in time for the summer season.
SuperYacht Times interviewed Captain Benn Weatherseed to learn about his experiences during the journey, the extensive precautions taken to mitigate risks, and to gather advice for captains considering a similar journey.
