Taking care of YOU - when was the last time?
Hey - I see you. Not taking care of yourself as well as you could be...
When was the last time you showed yourself the same kindness and care that you give to everyone else? I know how easy it is to get caught up in the demands of work, family, and everything in between, leaving little time to pause and take care of you.
But here’s the thing—self-kindness isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity. It’s about treating yourself with the same compassion and understanding that you’d offer a close friend. Instead of being harsh on yourself when things don’t go to plan, self kindness encourages you to recognise your worth, honour your needs, and forgive yourself when life gets messy.
The truth is, when we take time to nurture ourselves, we’re better able to handle the ups and downs of life. Self kindness boosts our resilience, helps prevent burnout, and allows us to show up more fully for the people and things we care about.

I'll let you in on a little secret - I find being kind to myself hard too. No one ever said that starting (and maintaining) habits was easy. What I do know though is that when my self kindness practices are lagging or I've prioritised other things instead of my own health, happiness and wellbeing...well...everyone suffers.
I'll give you an example. Earlier this year, some of you may know I had life-saving surgery for mouth cancer but what you may not know is that at the same time my husband was hospitalised for PTSD and suicide risk. In those moments post my surgery, my husband self presented to the emergency room and then was subsequently admitted to hospital himself. I had to dig deep and understand that I had successfully navigated my own surgery but was still healing. I knew I wouldn't be able to give him what he needed emotionally and so I contacted our closest family and friends to rally around to support him in my absence - and to support me!
There will be moments in our life where we have to choose our own health and happiness. This was one of those moments for me. An extreme example I know, but one which has shaped and strengthened our marriage over the following months into a relationship that is authentic, brave and more kind than it has ever been before.
As a result of this experience (and others!) I have been reminded over and over again that everyone is going through something, because we are human right?!
So, I’ve created something special for you—a FREE Simple Guide to Self Kindness, designed specifically for busy humans who often put themselves last on their to-do list. Everything in the guide I use personally to help keep myself healthier and happier, and the strategies have all worked for me, so I thought why not share it in a document that you can keep somewhere for future reference.
What’s inside the guide?
If you’re feeling burnt out, overwhelmed, or like you’ve been neglecting your own needs, this guide will help you reset, recharge, and refocus. You deserve a moment to breathe, reflect, and practice the same kindness towards yourself that you offer so freely to others.
Why is Self Kindness So Important?
When we neglect self-kindness, we run the risk of burnout, exhaustion, and feeling disconnected from ourselves. Practising self kindness is a way to refill your cup—because you can’t pour from an empty one. It enhances your mental and emotional wellbeing, helping you cope with stress and navigate life’s challenges with more grace.
My ‘'Good Read’' suggestion for this month is 'Mirrors in the Earth' by Asia Suler. This is absolutely one of my favourite books ever. Why? Firstly because it was gifted to me by one of the most wonderful humans in my life AND because when reading this book you are taken on a journey of self healing through the eyes of the author who uses connection with the Earth and the natural world around to bring back balance and harmony into her own life. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
