A Tale of Two Entrepreneurs

A Tale of Two Entrepreneurs

On a beautiful late spring afternoon twenty-five years ago, two young men graduated from the same university. They were very much alike, these two young men. Both had been better than average students, both worked hard, and both set big, specific, and measurable goals for themselves and their futures. Both of these young men were filled with hope for the bright future that lie ahead of them in their careers.

Recently, these men attended their school's 25th reunion.

They were still very much alike. Both were happily married. Both had three children. And both, it turned out, had become entrepreneurs in the suburbs of a big city.

But there was a difference. One of the men struggled to get through each day, doing tedious, repetitive work and barely making enough to pay his bills. The other was the CEO of a thriving business, earning great money and taking on only the clients and work that intrigued him.

What Made The Difference?

Have you ever wondered, as I have, what makes this kind of difference in people's lives? It isn't a native intelligence or talent or dedication. It isn't that one person wants success, and the other doesn't. It is one little thing that clearly separates those who live an average life from those who live lives of freedom and independence.

That one little thing is focus.

The difference in the achievements and success of these two men is that one of them has a system in place to apply a relentless, unwavering focus on the most important activities necessary for his business success. This system is so powerful and so effective that it takes on a life of its own and works aggressively to STAMP OUT distraction, activity avoidance, and failure.

The successful man was a member of a MASTERS team - a group of experts that meets each quarter and ensures he remains focused on his goals. This team reviews his goals with him in advance. They challenge him to set them bigger. The MASTERS force him to break the goal into specific, measurable action items. They force him to engage experts and delegate the details.

Creating this kind of team for yourself is difficult. You need to find people who have strengths that complement yours. You need someone with project management skills who can help you stay on track. You need a strategic mind who understands your vision and can help you draw a straight line from where you are to where you want to go.

During the past 30 years as a business leader, consultant, and advisor to CEOs, I discovered the secret to unlocking massive productivity and success was positive external pressure applied toward the most critical aspects of business and life.

Working one-on-one with a business coach is valuable and essential. Belonging to a peer advisory group - like EO, Strategic Coach, or Vistage is necessary. But surrounding yourself with a team that will help you and hold you accountable for accomplishing your ONE BIG GOAL each quarter makes the difference in taking your executive performance from GOOD to GREAT.

Now that we agree that you need this MASTERS team to enable your success and hold you accountable, what are the next steps?

  • You could try to create this yourself.
  • And after you do that, you could develop the methodology to be sure you stay on track during the next 90 days.
  • And then, you could do an after-action review and what went right and what will need to happen to keep the momentum going.

But that process itself is a full-time job.

Let me do this for you.

I have the process in place. I'm continuously forming MASTERS teams to help you work through these issues. And I've been doing this successfully for over 30 years.

I am the shortcut you've been looking for.

My MASTERS groups meet once each quarter, and we focus specifically on helping you achieve your goals.

This isn't about introspection and self-discovery. It's about you getting the big, audacious, complicated stuff done quickly.

This is about reducing complexity and simplifying your life.

This is about focus - your focus.

I think if we start to prioritize ours daily tasks according to a level of urgency & delegate other time consuming task. We can achieve results faster. Also it gives a sense of accomplishment & motivates to do more. Agree?
