A Taste of Mommy Burnout on Mother’s Day

Being a working parent is playing double duty. We all know it's hard work, but now there's data that show just how hard. In a recent study 66 percent of working parents reported feeling like they have nothing left to give.

This week, we focus on giving those working parents some strategies both at home and at the office so you can regain your sanity.

After surviving this past Mother's Day, I thought, "Why not? Let's go there." So I did. In this week's blog article, I share my recent taste of mommy burnout.

In retrospect, these issues seems so small, but at the time they took over my emotional landscape. And that was just part of one day.

If you're wondering whether you're experiencing parental burnout, I outline:

  • The symptoms to look out for
  • What puts you at risk
  • What not to do when dealing with stress
  • And strategies to get support, manage responsibilities, and so much more
  • Plus, you'll get some tips from a parenting strategist

Don't miss this week's article, especially if you're in the 66 percent of working parents feeling like the well has dried up!

Are you spending your nights and weekends organizing your reports for work? Do you constantly have to edit what you write because you’re not getting the responsiveness that you want? Are you feeling frustrated, bitter, or are you starting to lose confidence in yourself because you’re not getting the decisions you want?

Certainly, this is not only keeping you from being able to unplug and reboot, but it’s putting you at risk for burnout and it can stall your career.

But luckily, there is a simple turnaround for this that can help get your message out in a powerful way more quickly and also accelerate your career.

This week on the Decode Your Burnout podcast, we are joined by Davina Stanley, a communication specialist whose specialty is helping executives communicate complex ideas.

She’s here to debunk the myths of what it takes to be a great business communicator because when your thinking is clear, you can communicate more clearly and get the decisions you need:

Myth 1: Your audience needs your background first so they can understand your main point

Myth 2: Shorter communication is always better

Myth 3: A great way to structure your communication is to provide a list of topics

Sheryl Ziegler was a mom who, after being admitted to the ER for pain, had a lightbulb moment. You see, up until that moment, she thought she was okay. Then she found herself in the hospital and realized how disconnected she was from everyone outside of her family.

Like most busy moms, she had spent her years focusing on raising her kids, shuttling them around, and advancing her career. But this left her lonely, unfulfilled, and exhausted.

This is what she calls, "The problem that has no name." It is why she says moms are miserable. But worry not. She then leads us into a solution. Watch it now.

Bonus

Over the past 10 or so months, I've interviewed experts from all walks of life. Each of them has shared a mindset hack to help you solve life's main challenges.

This string of interviews belong to the podcast, Exhausted to Extraordinary. This week is the 40th and final episode of the show and instead of interviewing another expert, I took all the mindset hacks and compiled them into a few clusters.

By following these mindsets, you will be able to:

  • Build up your resilience
  • Face challenges and overcome your fear of failure
  • Manage anxiety and negativity and feel better faster
  • Revive the relationship with yourself
  • Break bad habits and establish good ones
  • Find your happiness at work
  • Work more efficiently
