Wednesday was always the day I featured team building destinations. I hit the pause button last year when destinations around the world imposed travel and meeting bans to contain the spread of COVID-19.

As destinations open up, I have gradually been bringing back this series. I am focusing on the destinations where my company is getting the highest number of requests for team building and executive retreats.

Here are some important things to remember when formulating your plan:

• don't neglect team building, you need team innovation more than ever
• get-together virtually until you can gather face-to-face
• thank team members with gift certificates for spa days and staycations that they can use when facilities re-open
• link the virtual and face-to-face sessions with a theme
• at home or abroad, buyouts of boutique hotels, villas, and small resorts are the safest way to protect team members for the foreseeable future
• for 2021, as things open up, remember local retreats and resort stays will help reboot the local economy and minimize risks to your team
• negotiate flexible attrition
• exercise duty of care by ensuring that all participating team members are tested
• observe all COVID-19 protocols
