Tech Trends That Might Shape 2024

Get ready for the tech ride of 2024! Last year brought cool innovations, changing how we live and work globally.

But guess what? The tech world doesn’t take breaks! Now, let’s peek into 2024 and see what’s up. Some things are making a comeback but with a twist. And new things are coming to the party.

Tech is always changing, and the cool stuff from 2023 is just the start. Hold on tight for more exciting changes that’ll shape how we live!

Generative AI Takes Center Stage

Generative AI, a groundbreaking technology, has disrupted numerous industries by empowering machines to generate content that closely resembles human creations. This encompasses a broad spectrum of applications, from the creation of textual content to the synthesis of images and even the composition of music.

Mastering generative AI opens up exciting career prospects in fields such as artificial intelligence research, data science, and the creative industries. Notably, the GPT store by OpenAI is anticipated to amplify the prevalence of generative AI applications, evidenced by users generating over 3 million custom versions of ChatGPT.

The Rise of AI Gadgets

Major players in the tech industry, such as Intel and Qualcomm, are engaged in a competitive race to develop mainstream PCs designed to excel at AI features. These PCs are equipped with distinct “neural processing units” integrated into their central processing units (CPUs). Microsoft has mandated a dedicated AI button on Windows PCs, streamlining access to the Copilot AI embedded in Windows 11.

The AI revolution isn’t limited to traditional smartphones; innovative companies are envisioning AI-first gadgets that redefine user interactions. AI emerges as the pivotal technology to watch in 2024, with implications extending beyond conventional smartphones.

Connected to Satellites: A New Normal

While satellite phone networks have existed for decades, 2024 presents a paradigm shift with the potential for practical satellite connections for everyday individuals. SpaceX, led by Elon Musk, has launched satellites designed to double as orbiting cell towers, signalling a potential end to cellular dead zones. The vision is to enable regular smartphones, such as those offered by T-Mobile, to send and receive text messages globally.

SpaceX’s ambitious plans include up to 144 Falcon missions in 2024, aligning with their ongoing deployment of satellites for the Starlink system, contributing to SpaceX’s impressive valuation of $180 billion. Simultaneously, Amazon aims to compete with Musk’s Starlink by developing its own satellite-based broadband internet service.

Widespread 5G Connectivity

Building on the foundation of satellite connectivity, 5G technology emerges as the next wave of innovation, poised to revolutionise various aspects of our lives. Unlike its predecessors, 5G not only facilitates faster internet speeds but also supports advanced technologies such as augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and cloud-based gaming services like Google Stadia and NVidia GeForce Now.

Telecom giants, including Verizon, T-Mobile, Apple, Nokia Corp, and Qualcomm, are actively engaged in creating diverse 5G applications. Projections indicate that 5G network subscriptions will reach a staggering 4.4 billion by the end of 2027, solidifying its status as an emerging and transformative technology trend.

Blockchain Beyond Cryptocurrency

While commonly associated with cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, blockchain technology transcends its initial applications. In its essence, blockchain serves as a secure and immutable data system where information can only be added, not altered or removed. The term “chain” reflects the sequential nature of data, enhancing security.

Furthermore, blockchains operate on a consensus-driven model, preventing any single entity from controlling the data. As industries increasingly adopt blockchain technology, the demand for skilled professionals, particularly blockchain developers, is on the rise. These professionals specialise in designing and implementing solutions utilising the secure and decentralised capabilities of blockchain technology.
