Testing 90º milling with Motion III

Testing 90º milling with Motion III

Losing buccal anatomical details always upsets me when milling monolithic anterior restorations. This issue arises from several factors, such as connectors, the unsuitable placement of the design in the block, and a lack of milling axes on the machine.

However, we managed recently to solve this problem with our new Motion 3 machine from Amann Girrbach . This innovative feature, which was known for #Millbox and C-clamp users, allows us to approach the restoration differently. Instead of tilting the restoration through axes A and B to mill every possible corner from the sides and reduce blocked areas, we now mill directly along the surface at a 90-degree angle between the bur and the surface.

After completing the restoration crafting using CAD software, I moved on to the nesting process and selected the C-clamp as a holder. Next, we must have identified the open area where the bur should mill vertically. If we did not do this, the machine would mill the restoration as if it were placed in a round holder, in other words, it will mill the restoration from top and bottom and title it to the maximum allowed angle ( which is usually no more than +/- 30º in Motion3).

Finally, all anatomical details were preserved thanks to the free open area and direct preaching of the milling tools on surfaces. I want to say that this Restoration was milled with standard strategy, though the result was significant compared to the 5-axis approach. We could have used the HD strategy to obtain a much better resolution using 0.3 bur.

Hi, if you need dry & wet milling machines, pls contact me. 😊 Except 90 degree milling, we still have other advantages for your machining.
