TGN - No Cure? No Way!
Hello, my fellow Good News Affinado.
Don't we all love everyday heroes?
They inspire us to be grateful, do more and be better.
They make us wish we could be heroes too — and we can. It's easier than you think.
It starts by giving kindness to everybody we meet, smiling at strangers, and giving a little bit of our money to the less fortunate.
This week's edition is about superhero parents!
These guys went literally beyond themselves to save their son. I hope they inspire you to be a hero too.
Here is today's Good News!
Terry and Georgia Pirovolakis' journey to find a cure for their son Michael's rare genetic disorder, spastic paraplegia 50 (SPG50), is a remarkable testament to parental love and determination.
Despite being told there was no treatment available, Terry embarked on a global quest, collaborating with scientists and investing their life savings to develop a gene therapy.
Their efforts paid off when Michael became the first person with SPG50 to receive this groundbreaking treatment in March 2022, resulting in significant improvements in his condition.
The Pirovolakis family's compassion extended beyond their own son as they chose to share the remaining doses with other affected children.
Terry's mission evolved into founding Elpida Therapeutics , a company dedicated to developing treatments for rare diseases often overlooked by pharmaceutical companies.
Despite financial challenges, Terry and his team have set up clinical trials and continue to work tirelessly to bring hope to families affected by SPG50 and other rare disorders.
Their story exemplifies how personal adversity can spark innovative solutions and create far-reaching positive impact for others facing similar challenges.
