Every single time I do research for this newsletter I have a big smile on my face. It's tough to pick a 'Good News' story, not because they are hard to find but because there are so many of them.

I am an optimist to my core and reading all these stories about fantastic human beings doing amazing things for others and the planet makes me feel in awe.

The Bread and Butter Thing is redefining the concept of food banks across the UK by prioritizing community connections and holistic support alongside food provision. With over 120 hubs nationwide, this initiative ensures that visitors not only receive surplus food but also engage in meaningful conversations and access various forms of assistance, from job-seeking advice to mental health support. By repurposing surplus food from farms, factories, and supermarkets, The Bread and Butter Thing not only prevents waste but also empowers its 75,000 members to collectively save millions of pounds annually on their household shopping bills.

Through its innovative approach, The Bread and Butter Thing is not only addressing immediate food insecurity but also fostering long-term change in marginalized communities. Recognized for its impactful work, including winning the title of Community Partnership of the Year at the Global Good Awards, this initiative serves as a beacon of hope for those facing food poverty. With dedicated volunteers like Lynne Daley embodying the spirit of compassion and community, The Bread and Butter Thing exemplifies how grassroots efforts can transform lives and build resilient communities.
