Interceptor 006, stationed in Guatemala's Rio Las Vacas, has proven its effectiveness once again by capturing a significant amount of trash during the region's first flood of the year. In its second year of operation, Interceptor 006 continues to make strides in mitigating plastic pollution, with its recent catch potentially being the largest river catch yet. The Rio Las Vacas, a tributary of the Rio Motagua, serves as a critical site for interception efforts due to its role in funnelling plastic waste towards the Caribbean Sea. Despite challenges, such as municipal waste washing into the river during heavy rains, Interceptor 006 remains steadfast in its mission to prevent plastic from reaching the ocean.

The Interceptor Barricade, comprised of strategically positioned floating booms, plays a crucial role in capturing plastic while allowing the river's flow to continue unhindered. This innovative approach underscores The Ocean Cleanup 's commitment to addressing plastic pollution at its source, with over 9 million kilograms of trash already extracted globally. As Interceptor 006 continues to demonstrate its impact in Guatemala and beyond, The Ocean Cleanup remains dedicated to its mission of ocean plastic eradication, with ongoing efforts to optimize interception strategies and expand operations worldwide.
