At the summit, with the speakers, leaders there was a deep dive into booming tech, trends & sectors that helps discover potential outliers. The summit provided an interactive forum for investors, family offices and VCs to seamlessly engage with 100X portfolio companies on the sidelines of the summit. What was so unique about 100X Investor Summit is the fact that content was specially curated for early-stage investors be it angel investors, micro VCs, corporate venture capital or family offices.

The MoonShot Game

No alt text provided for this image

Welcome note was delivered by Ninad Karpe to a full house of investors. There is never a perfect time for a moonshot. So, be willing to take calculated risks — like launching at what looks like the wrong time to most. Doing anything big and bold in the world is hard. It takes passion, grit, luck and sometimes a decade or more of hard work to see a moonshot materialize, much less succeed

We had reached maximum capacity in the hall and outside in the networking area. The overwhelming consensus among the investors and founders we spoke to was that it was great to be back, and importantly, back in person.

Success leaves clues

The overwhelming support from the investor community helped us at 100X.VC continue to accelerate our mission of

  1. Funding Simplified
  2. Mentoring Unlimited
  3. Investing Simplified

100X funded startup got unparalleled access to the investor community, resources and education that entrepreneurs need in business need to thrive.

Most attempts at discovery fail, but a few succeed at such a scale that they more than makeup for everything else. That extreme ratio of success and failure is the power-law that drives venture capital & the tech sector. Or simply put, a small % of firms capture a large % of industry returns. This means that a small % of VC funds take home a large % of venture returns. At the end of the day, entrepreneurs build companies, not VCs.

Family Office: Venture Capital as an Asset Class

Family Offices have been more active participants in venture investing over the past decade, many times leading investments in early-stage venture rounds. As holders of “patient capital,” family offices’ time horizons make them good VC investors. The primary impetus is strong historical venture capital returns. Investors that may have previously confined themselves to public markets are now clomping all over the venture capital landscape. More family offices are opting to invest in startups directly, rather than backing them through VC funds. As more family office investors build their expertise and track records, they can also build a powerful network effect, eroding traditional VCs’ main advantage “access” to deal flow.

Future Proof Business: Corporate Venture Capital

Corporate VCs provide startups with in-depth industry knowledge and access to potential customers, while institutional VCs are experts in building companies and driving financial results. Corporate VCs tend to have strategic objectives. In the short-term, they invest in partners that drive closer alignment and tighter relationships to the company. Corporate venture investments are a vehicle for the company to go into riskier and more disruptive R&D. Since most invest off the balance sheet, it gives the company more scale in R&D than just its P&L — they while providing companies with access to market and talent not otherwise available.

Angels and Sharks: Big Ideas in the Age of Small Investments

The last panel discussion for the day was to discuss Angel Investing.

Padmaja Ruparel, Dr. Anirudhha Malpani, Aditya Pitte, Paula Mariwala, Aarti Gupta

Get started with angel investing now. It takes years to learn and longer to see returns. It takes a long time to learn, but investing is one of the few professions where you can improve until the day you die. You will have to pass on great teams because the valuation is too high. You will have to pass on future iconic technology companies because the price is too high. Some markets are obviously bad and should be avoided. But judgment about markets is less important than you think, because there is so much luck and randomness involved.
