Throwing Spaghetti at the Wall? Let’s Talk About a REAL Social Media Strategy 🍝

Hey there,

Ever feel like you’re throwing spaghetti at the wall when it comes to social media? You’re posting, you’re creating content, maybe even dancing a little on TikTok—yet you’re not quite sure if anything’s actually sticking.

Let me tell you something I’ve learned in my years of being in the marketing trenches: Social media isn’t about creating just anything that seems fun in the moment. Nope. It’s about having a cohesive, well-oiled strategy that goes far beyond just counting likes and followers. So, grab a bowl of pasta (spaghetti optional) and let’s dive in. 🍝

Strategy > Random Acts of Content Creation

Social media is an amazing tool for brand awareness, but it’s NOT a standalone magic trick. It’s a piece of a much bigger puzzle. Every post, every story, every little hashtag should be part of a larger omnichannel strategy that includes email marketing, SMS, ads, and beyond. Think of it as the seasoning in your sauce; alone it’s fine, but together? Oh, it’s divine!

Why Omnichannel is the New Black

Being on Instagram is great, but guess what? Your audience is also checking emails, reading texts, and seeing ads as they scroll through their news feeds. Your strategy should seamlessly connect all these platforms—like a well-orchestrated symphony where each channel plays its part. And don’t just stop there! Make sure that content is also driving them somewhere meaningful—your website, your products, your email list.

Consistency & Timing: Your Secret Weapons

You wouldn’t bake a cake by just throwing all the ingredients in the oven randomly. The same goes for social media. Timing, consistency, and the right keywords are critical. The best strategies are all about showing up when your audience is ready to see you—and when they're most likely to take action.

I always tell people: if you’re just tossing content out there randomly, hoping something will catch on, you’re doing it the hard way. Know your calendar, align your content with your brand’s key messages, and keep your posts consistent across platforms. Spaghetti may be random, but your social media strategy shouldn't be.

My Client’s Story: Pretty Isn’t Always Profitable

Here’s a story that might sound familiar. I had a client who was absolutely thrilled with how their social media looked. They had a separate team handling it, investing tons of time and money into creating polished, aesthetically pleasing content. Their grid was flawless, each post was beautifully designed, and they were really proud of how it represented the brand visually.

But here’s the reality check: While it all looked amazing, the numbers were saying something else. There was little to no traffic coming from social media, and—brace yourself—no conversions. Not a single sale. Isn’t that the goal? Their social media was basically a digital art gallery: lovely to look at, but not doing much else.

When I joined the team, I found my hands tied because there was no alignment between the social media team and the rest of our strategy. It’s a classic case of "pretty but pointless." Social media should be more than just eye candy; it should drive people to act. This experience taught me that strategy—and sometimes collaboration, which I know can be tricky for inter-company teams—is absolutely essential.

The Spaghetti Test: Final Thoughts

So, if you’re feeling like you’re just throwing random posts at the wall, hoping something sticks—let’s stop right there. Get intentional. Align your social media strategy with the rest of your marketing efforts, be consistent, and keep an eye on those metrics. Likes are cute, but conversions are what pay the bills.

Remember, every post should serve a purpose, be part of a bigger strategy, and bring you one step closer to your brand goals. Let’s make sure your spaghetti isn’t just sticking—it’s actually driving results.
