For Tim
Life. It’s weird isn’t it.
I had a text from one of my best friends on Sunday. His dad had died. Suddenly. Unexpectedly.
We were in London on Saturday with our partners talking about how he, along with his wife and son, were spending Christmas with his mum and dad this year.
Tim was a big part of my life growing up. I’ve known him since I was 7 years old. He used to ferry me and my brother to rugby when my mum couldn’t take us. He’d help coach. He was an ever present figure on the sidelines. He introduced me to the world of Warhammer.
He was a father figure to me whether he ever knew it or not. I definitely never told him that. And now I can’t.
Over the last few days I’ve not once thought about his job, the work he did, the money he made…the LinkedIn updates he never posted.
I just think about the dad he was. The grandad I saw him become. The smiles. The support. The laughs.
And sometimes, especially when we find ourselves under pressure, stressed or on the edge of burning out, I think that’s worth remembering.
Rest in peace Tim x
