Is it time to cut the fat?

Is it time to cut the fat?

We all know if you want to have a great rig, you chisel away the fat right?

It’s all about stripping it back, cutting down, losing that extra weight that doesn’t serve you anymore.

And the thing that has become blindingly obvious to me is that to become the best man and Dad you can be, to perform at the peak of your powers….

You have to cut the fat in all other parts of your life.

We are all doing WAY too much.

Being pulled in so many different directions all of the time.

Trying to spin a million plates.

And we need to be prepared to drop some, cut some things out that we don’t want to do anymore.

Simplify

For me this has been liberating, but also painful at times.

Your ego may take a bit of a bruising to begin with.

You may not win the sports round in the pub quiz anymore because you haven't spent 3 hours a day on the BBC website.

You may get that earlier train home after having 1 less beer because you want to get to the gym in the morning.

You may have to let that old mate go who doesn’t put anything into your relationship.

You may have to say ‘I don’t know’ a few more times than normal when people ask your opinion on the latest news story that you don’t know about.

Your mind won’t like you not fitting in.

It craves comfort.

And I know it’s tough sometimes because I have done all of these things.

But I also know I only have a limited amount of time, effort and energy.

A finite amount of fucks to give.

So I’m prepared to trim the fat and let go of everything that doesn’t serve my focus of performing at my highest potential across my work, family and health.

I have goals that I want to hit. External and internal.

So either I can default to what my mind wants me to do or take some intentional, bullseye action to take the actions I actually want to do.

It's up to me.

Have I still got fat to get rid of?

Fuck yeah, my literal and metaphorical love handles are still there!

But I’m doing the reps to work away at them over time.

So if you feel like you’re not at full potential, here’s an invitation to look at your life and see where you can trim the fat today?

It’ll be hard work at first but it’ll be worth it.

Cheers,

Steve
