TIME - the Ultimate Equalizer.

TIME - the Ultimate Equalizer.

24 non-discriminatory hours tick tocks by in each day for every person on the planet. Those who are busy accomplishing much and those who are lazily accomplishing nothing spend the same 24 hours. At the end of the day, do you feel accomplished and closer to a goal?

There are two ineffective time-based claims that most people roll off their tongue on a somewhat regular basis.

1.      I’m busy

2.      I’m killing time

BUSY.

This word means a few things per the Merriam Webster dictionary. Busy is also the biggest excuse for lack of accomplishment AND the biggest reason for massive accomplishment. ‘Busy’ is a very interesting state of being that warrants a closer look.

The Merriam Webster dictionary defines 'busy' this way:

"Busy and level of activity go hand in hand. Busy and level of productivity does not." Trudy Beerman

Busy-ness is an illusion that when compared against productivity is like looking in a mirror and not having a reflection. If this is the story of your productivity – I invite you to hop off the ‘busy’ wheel now.

23 years ago, I owned a factory with a production line. I know the difference between being busy and productive. No money was earned from the workers being busy. Money was earned when sellable units came off the line. Paying workers to stack up unfinished items versus paying workers for sellable units was a whole different kind of busy. It is amazing how powerfully our wallets can be in reinforcing important lessons. When one kind of busy costs me an arm and a leg, and the same hours by the same people earn me a profit – the definition of busy took on a whole new meaning for me.

Killing Time

Killing time is another way people countdown their life clock.

Boredom, laziness, procrastination, time-wasting activities are just some of the ways people ‘kill time’.

Killing time is a very accurate description of this phenomenon because just like all things dead, resurrection is not a reality of earthly expectation nor experience. Once you kill time, it is dead, dead, dead and gone forever.

The usual outcome of killing time is regret. For some, regret hits them on their death bed. Some feel it when a deadline is upon them or past. Too late! Despite all the scientific research, time travel is nowhere on the horizon any time soon.

So, let me ask again - at the end of the day, do you feel accomplished and closer to a goal? OR, did you feel busy without production or like you just killed time?

Life is measured in TIME!

If you are deliberate about ensuring you have productive moments, which leads to productive hours, which leads to productive days, which leads to productive years - YOU WILL HAVE A PRODUCTIVE, ACCOMPLISHED LIFE!
