Tips for success in the recruitment industry:

If you work in recruitment, you know how competitive and challenging the industry can be. As someone who has worked in recruitment for over 16 years, as a consultant, manager and business owner, I’ve seen people become hugely successful in this industry, but unfortunately, I’ve also seen a lot of people who haven’t managed to succeed. So, what would I recommend to someone trying to make it in the world of recruitment?

Become an expert

The people who are most successful in this industry take initiative and are proactive, they build knowledge of the sector they cover, and truly understand the world of their clients and candidates. They are experts in both recruitment and the desk they cover.

Develop your squad

Recruitment is a team effort, and the success of your team directly impacts your individual success. Take the time to get to know your colleagues and build strong relationships. I’m also a big believer in mentors, if your company has a formal mentorship program get involved, if not reach out to someone and ask them to mentor you – don't be shy, they will be flattered trust me!

Don’t be a transactional recruiter

Recruitment is not just about filling job vacancies; it's about building long-term relationships with clients. Go beyond the transactional nature of the job and focus on nurturing strong connections with your clients. Take the time to understand their specific needs, challenges, and goals. Tailor your solutions to meet their requirements, and consistently deliver value. Building trust and maintaining open lines of communication are crucial for successful client relationships.
