Tired of the grind? Take a quick break! March 31st Edition

Tired of the grind? Take a quick break! March 31st Edition

The #REVENUECLIMBER Journal mails Thursday each week to support those of us on the self-employment journey who want a quick break rather than a long read.

I’ve got 3 simple tips you can try right away that worked for me:

1) Managing attention is a hard business skill

Here's why it's so important.

Moving from screen to screen and task to task consumes an enormous amount of energy. Multi-tasking is a myth.

You are a high-speed computer switching attention quickly from moment to moment. That consumes energy and explains why people burn out during the day.

Watch this video for a better way to manage your attention.

Another tip that worked for me.

Stop checking your inboxes and social media feeds throughout the day. Never check them first thing in the morning.

2) Learn the difference between a connection and a conversion conversation.

Being a solopreneur means knowing how to find and close clients. It also means networking to build your connections.

Knowing how to do this extremely well matters.

There are 2 different types of meetings that you will schedule:

a. Connection conversations - you asked them to talk

b. Conversion conversations - they expressed interest in your services

It's involved, so feel free to let me know if you want the details.

The basic idea?

It's the difference between an informational and a job interview.

On both calls, you will talk about what you do, but the emphasis and order are very different.

Don't waste time on social media and networking rooms unless you know how to handle what comes next.

3) Position your company for success.

You get one thought in the mind of your customer.

It needs to be one that matters.

The name Revenue Climber no longer matches the desired positioning that I want in the marketplace.

I'm changing it to Solopreneur Inc. - The Power of Many because nothing powers success more than strong positioning.

The classic book on positioning is animated here for easy review.

These 2 quotes inspired me this week:

1) “Conflict is the beginning of consciousness" Esther Harding

I'm reading The I and the Not I, Esther Harding's book on Carl Jung's ideas.

You may wonder what this has to do with self-employment.

Here's why this is relevant to us.

We don't bring to the table everything needed to build a company that delivers the life that we desire. That means embracing change.

Change requires personal insight, conflict with yourself, and leaning into your fear.

I'm not the same person that I was when I started what will be Solopreneur Inc. I'm different from who I was yesterday too.

Embracing the development of yourself really matters.

2) "When you say you’re not paying attention, what you really are saying is my attention is not on the thing you want me to have it on” Dr. Amishi Jha

The quote supports the bullet point about attention and focus.

It's important enough that I want to include this link for you to learn more about the topic.

Learn more about how to train your mind to pay attention.

I've stopped having my social media channels open when I'm working, Larry. It was fine to keep hopping on and off during lockdown when most of us were much quieter. But it's the ultimate distraction and time suck on busy days.

Understanding and mastering the difference between a 'connection' conversation and a 'conversion' conversation is something all business owners need to do Larry.
