Toasty Times with Johnny Spoiler: A Sunburned Episode Recap

Toasty Times with Johnny Spoiler: A Sunburned Episode Recap

Hey there, folks! Writing this episode was an absolute blast because, well, I'm feeling a bit toasty. Yup, you heard that right. I'm a little sunburnt, and I've had a few drops of sunshine in my cup. So, consider this your official disclaimer: I'm toasted. For educational and entertainment purposes only, of course.

Now, the Urban Dictionary can't quite decide if toasted means tipsy or something else entirely. It's like a 3-to-2 vote in favor of another activity. But I found this gem of an entry: "Extremely intoxicated, usually drunk, often used in small, rather snooty suburban towns to describe drunkenness and the stupidity drunkenness entails. After one skinny margarita, I was totally toasted. I was so drunk, all I could think of was cinnamon toasted crunch and pork fried toasted by Westport weekend woman from July 4, 2011." Hey, Westport weekend woman sounds like a blast!

Anyway, I'm Johnny Spoiler. I spoil the movies I love, and you've stumbled into this show. So, who's toasted now? In about 45 seconds, I'll be back with some home video headlines. Grab a drink, preferably one that's red but looks pink on screen, and I'll see you in a bit.

Home Video Headlines

Alright, let's dive into what's going on in the world of TV, movies, and streaming.

  • Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are rumored to be in a movie about the Hulk Hogan-Gawker trial. Nice!
  • Some toilet video has 17 billion views on YouTube, making you feel like there's no reason to create anything anymore. Just kidding! Michael Bay is supposedly adapting it into a movie. How shitty would that be?
  • Boomerang app is going bye-bye. No more Flintstones, Jetsons, or Dino the dinosaur. Warner Brothers is pulling the plug on it. Sad times.

Tonight's Movie: The First Power

Tonight, we're talking about "The First Power." It's about a Los Angeles detective tracking down a demonic serial killer who can jump into other bodies. Lou Diamond Phillips stars as Detective Russell Logan. You might know Lou from hits like "The Big Hit," "Young Guns," "Stand and Deliver," and of course, "La Bamba."

Joining him are Tracy Griffith as Tess Seaton, Jeff Kober as Patrick Channing, and McKelty Williamson (Bubba from Forrest Gump) as the ill-fated partner. Fun fact: Stuart Copeland, the drummer and founding member of The Police, composed the music for "The First Power." That's why the soundtrack is so good.

If you're into body-jumping killer movies, check out "The Believers," "Fallen," "The Ninth Gate," or "Jason Goes to Hell."

Favorite Bits from The First Power

Here are my favorite bits from "The First Power":

  • The opening credits forming a pentagram.
  • The phone call between Logan and Tess – it should have been the first scene.
  • The dude’s pet cat eating his pizza. Classic cat behavior!
  • Great dialogue: "No more goblins, no more tooth fairies. The yuppie psychic shit doesn’t cut it."
  • The infamous horse and carriage scene where the possessed horse stomps a detective partner to death.

Binge Now, Binge Later, or Binge Never?

I usually draw this out, but tonight I'm going straight to it: "The First Power" is a binge now. I've watched it more times than I can count, and it never gets old.

Fan Service and Staff Picks

What’s going on with the fans? Well, they've been liking stuff on TikTok. That's something, right? As for staff picks, if you're not in the mood for "The First Power," I recommend checking out "Veep." It's messy humans doing messy human stuff, and it's hilarious.

Other picks? "Long Legs" is a bit overrated but might tickle your fancy. I still haven't seen "Blade" steal the scenes in "Deadpool" and "Wolverine," but it's supposed to be fantastic.

Wrapping It Up

That's all for tonight, folks. Remember, you don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay here. Catch you next time on the flip side!
