Top 10 Work From Anywhere Companies

Top 10 Work From Anywhere Companies

Being able to Work From Anywhere (WFA) means true freedom for many!

Despite the vast majority of employees saying they would prefer the freedom to choose where they work, there’s only a small percentage of companies that offer true work from anywhere.

Let’s take a look at why…

📊 Admin Complications: While Employer of Record (EOR) services like Deel & Oyster exist, they come with additional costs and administrative hurdles. Enabling employees to work from anywhere involves legal and logistical considerations.

🌐 Timezone Difficulties: Communication and coordination become complex when team members are spread across different time zones and organising online team activities can be challenging.

🎯 Recruitment Challenges: Hiring in unfamiliar markets come with hurdles to overcome. Recruiting talent in locations where a company might lack knowledge or presence can be challenging. Understanding local talent pools, cultural nuances, and legal aspects isn’t straightforward.

💼 Tax Implications: Allowing employees to work extensively outside their country of residence can raise significant tax concerns for both the company and the employees. Different countries have varying tax laws, and prolonged work in different locations can trigger tax liabilities and compliance complexities.

I am, of course, an advocate of ‘Work From Anywhere’, so whilst I agree there are challenges to offering Work From Anywhere jobs - there are hundreds if not thousands of organisations that DO offer this!

Here are 10 companies that don’t just offer remote jobs, they go one step further and take the time to overcome the hurdles to offer ‘Work from Anywhere’ jobs.

  1. Duck Duck Go - They’ve been fully remote since before it was a thing- they get it!
  2. Whereby - a truly Work From Anywhere and ‘hours agnostic’ company
  3. Doist - they’ve even got someone who is Head of Remote there!
  4. Remote - one of the OGs in Work From Anywhere
  5. GitLab - They’ve been an all remote company since day one!
  6. Chili Piper - 100% remote since 2006 and they have a really transparent interview process
  7. Roamr - Work From Anywhere, up and coming Startup, about to hire their first hire!
  8. Wikimedia Foundation - Not only Work From Anywhere but also a charitable, not-for-profit organization, pioneers of the free knowledge revolution.
  9. Publitas - With people across 26 different countries working asynchronously- they really ‘get’ Work From Anywhere!
  10. Invisible Technologies - With a “Work Anywhere, Change Everything” motto dive into a world where groundbreaking innovation meets the freedom of remote work.

I would love a remote role but I have a background in Biology and Chemistry. Jobs suited for my skilkset are often in person or are sales-based with frequent travel which doesn't fit the needs of my family. Do you often see remote roles for Scientists? Can you offer advice for those of us with STEM backgrounds?

Unfortunately Duck Duck Go do have some location requirements - maybe only for certain roles?
