Top 5 League of Legends Tournaments
With the Esports industry growing rapidly, it's become more than a hobby. Gaming is a profession for people, a source of livelihood. As Esports is evolving, so are the gaming tournaments. Today's blog will discuss the top 5 tournaments of League of Legends to date.
League of Legends
Riot Games created and released League of Legends (LoL), sometimes known as League, a multiplayer online battle arena computer game in 2009. The creators of Riot were motivated to create a standalone game in a similar genre by the Warcraft III custom map Defense of the Ancients.
In the game, there are two teams of five players each, and they engage in player-versus-player combat while defending and occupying their respective halves of the battlefield. The ten players each control a "champion," a figure with special abilities and a different playing style. Champions gain strength during a match by gaining experience points, earning gold, and investing in items to outwit the opposing team. In Summoner's Rift, the main game of League, a team wins by breaking through to the enemy base and destroying their "Nexus," a sizable structure within.
League of Legends is one of the world's largest Esports, described by The New York Times as its "main attraction". Online viewership and in-person attendance for the game's Esports events outperformed those of the National Basketball Association, the World Series, and the Stanley Cup in 2016.
Now that we've discussed a little about LoL, let's talk about Esports tournaments now.
What are Esports tournaments?
A tournament is a competition involving at least three competitors, all participating in a sport or game. It primarily involves teams competing against each other in tournaments for a cash prize. Functionally, it’s the same as traditional sports. Top-level athletes are constantly vying for the top spots in their sport, or game, of choice.
In most team-based Esports, organized play is centered around the use of promotion and relegation to move sponsored teams between leagues within the competition's organization based on how the team fared in matches; this follows patterns of professional sports in European and Asian countries.
Gaming evolved from a casual pastime to a regulated professional sport starting in the 1990s. Tens of millions of people watch tournaments live now in a sector called Esports, which is also known as competitive professional gaming, and their prospective Olympic debut is just around the corner.
