The total reinvention of Nadal with Carlos Moyà

Today it is not enough to talk about the victory or defeat of Rafael Nadal, for me it's important to talk about his reinvention as the best player, the most aggressive and the process of having achieved it. The first person responsible for his evolution clearly is Rafa for doing it, but I want to talk about the merit of Carlos Moyà, as a previous coach to Milos Raonic. He achieved that evolution by balancing his game, but with Rafa he has improved the good things and has compensated for the few weaknesses he has, making him almost indestructible on any surface.

It is complicated for a player with these characteristics to leave their comfort zone. The coaches make adjustments by reprogramming his game from the start of the rally until the end.

Rafa has managed to reinvent himself in the mental pillar by creating a new way of thinking. It has cost him important losses, but he has persevered by looking for the best version of himself on court. Looking back at the Australian Open final against Roger Federer, that as a result of Rafa wanting to win more aggressively against the Swiss player, it ended up with him losing the match.

As for the physical pillar, Nadal has changed his support system from back to front. When you are the best player receiving the ball, it is not an easy task and he has achieved it with success.

In the tactical pillar or pattern, going from playing long rallies that benefited him to seek to be more aggressive and close plays in short points. It all comes down to the orders of the brain and having the ability of doing this in the points that do not count is not as difficult, but doing it in the key points of the game is something almost against nature, it's like a computer that is programmed with Mac software and suddenly you make it work like a PC.

The key comes from the technical pillar, starting with the serve, hilt, throw, direction. The position inside the court waiting for the ball with the higher racket gives him more time in the forehand to be more aggressive. The advantage of using the dropshot and improving the maneuverability of the volleys.

Having won so much, it is difficult to assess your work. As Moyà says, with a student like Rafa it is very easy, but I assure you that what he has achieved requires special ability. Rafa you win many before, but playing at this level of aggressiveness and domination is new and impressing. Congrats Rafa-Charly.
