Transforming a Financial Advisory Firm's Digital Presence: A Case Study

Transforming a Financial Advisory Firm's Digital Presence: A Case Study

Have you ever Googled your own name?

I know not many people can deny having indulged in this guilty pleasure. (I surely cannot!)

Often it happens that when you search for yourself on Google, some other people show up. People with the same name and surname, who seem to be more popular than you are.

And that’s alright.

But imagine if that happened with your business.

You Google your business (say it is called XYZ Pvt. Ltd.).

The #1 search result that comes is a company website. Not YOUR company’s website.

Another company’s website. A company, let’s call it YZX Pvt. Ltd.

That’s strange, right?

And you do have a website. Which is nowhere to be seen on the SERPs.

Disheartening. Disappointing. To a certain extent depressing, even. Isn’t it?

Well, you are the one who is just imagining such a scenario. One of our clients actually faced such a situation.

And today, we’ll walk you through our journey with that client and how we, at SynergyTop help them reclaim the #1 spot for their brand name (and many other keywords!) with dedicated website development and digital marketing support.

Let's dive in.

Who is this client?

Are we making up a story and hiding behind a ‘nameless’ client to get a fancy case study? Nope.

Our client - Kuhn Capital - is a California-based financing advisory that advises high-IP companies on exit opportunities, financing transactions, market analyses, and product innovation.

The Challenge(s):

Our client has been in business for several decades. However, they never considered the Web as a potential market.

They did have a basic website built on Squarespace. However, the website had the following issues:

  • The existing website had an average design. No standout elements. Nothing to help it look and feel different from the others.
  • The website lacked any SEO setup.

It was almost as if someone cooked a meal (a sloppy meal though!) but forgot to put it on the table for its intended audience.

Seeing competitors get business from their website, Mr. Ryan Kuhn, the Managing Director at Kuhn Capital felt the need to do something about their website.

Here’s what he did:

Step 1: Conducted thorough research about website redesign companies via the B2B marketplace Clutch.

Step 2: Shortlisted a couple of companies and get on a call with them to explore potential synergies.

Step 3: Finalize a tech partner based on a variety of parameters.

No point in guessing that the chosen ‘tech partner’ was: SynergyTop

What parameters did he use for the decision-making? Well, Mr. Ryan, is best equipped to answer that question. Feel free to DM him on LinkedIn and check out his new website here.

Once we kickstarted the engagement, we followed a step-by-step approach to build Kuhn Capital’s website and web presence.

Solution Highlights:

Step 1: Technical consultation

During the technical consultation, we suggested moving the website away from Squarespace and getting it redesigned on WordPress.

Why? Due to the inherent benefits of WordPress.

Step 2: Mockups and Designing

Once everything was finalized, we created a complete mockup of the website.

Our client had a clear vision for the website’s look and feel. We patiently heard everything that they wanted to express via the website and then wore our creative hats to design a site that matched that vision.

  • We used a Royal Blue and Gold theme which makes the site look premium and professional.
  • Unique icons were designed and used to create a unique look.
  • The typography, images, and videos were carefully chosen to create a put-together look.

We didn’t shy away from multiple iterations and continued till the client was 100% satisfied.

Step 3: Coding & Development

An HTML version was then created for the website’s pages based on the mockup.

Then the domain (kuhncap.com) was migrated from Squarespace to WordPress and the CMS was set up.

During the website development phase itself, we started deep competitor analysis and technical SEO setup. This helped lay a strong foundation for our digital marketing efforts.

The technical SEO setup included:

  • Setting up Google Analytics and Google Search Console
  • Preliminary keyword research
  • Adding SEO plugins like YoastSEO
  • Creating the robots.txt and sitemap.xml files
  • Ensuring a proper URL structure and navigation on the website

And of course, continuous testing was being carried out during the development phase itself. We ensured that the website looks as good on mobile phones and tablets as on desktops and laptops.

Step 4: Website Go-Live

After making sure we ticked all the boxes on our pre-deployment checklist, we published the website to the web.

Step 5: Ongoing Digital Marketing

Remember how we mentioned our client’s old website wasn’t even visible for branded keywords? Well, we had to do something about that as well, right?

So other than the basic technical SEO set up, we also offer digital marketing support to Kuhn Capital.

Here’s what we do for them:

  • On-page SEO: Ongoing keyword research Ongoing competitor analysis Adding proper meta title and description to the website’s pages and blogs optimization, including suggesting blog topics, adding relevant keywords to the blogs, etc.
  • Off-page SEO: Link building activities Business listings and directory listings Social bookmarking

We are also offering ongoing technical support and maintenance for the client’s WordPress website, which includes:
