Transforming Insights into Impact: A Summer at Connor Group

As I reflect on my internship at Connor Group, which spanned from June to August, I’m struck by how transformative these past few months have been. With a background in Management Information Systems (MIS), I entered the internship eager to apply my existing knowledge while acquiring new skills in strategy, growth, and business development. What I encountered was an experience that far exceeded my expectations.

Connor Group is a leader in finance, accounting, and technology consulting, known for guiding companies of all sizes through complex challenges. My role as a consulting intern provided a unique opportunity to contribute to this dynamic environment, where innovation and practical solutions are at the forefront.

From the outset, my primary objective was clear: to upskill and broaden my professional capabilities. I anticipated a steep learning curve, particularly as I navigated areas outside my immediate expertise. I was particularly focused on enhancing my technical skills while gaining insights into strategic business development.

During my internship, I worked extensively on developing technology strategies and implementing customized business solutions. NetSuite was central to my responsibilities, as I engaged in optimizing processes and ensuring tailored solutions for our clients. Additionally, I had the opportunity to contribute to client proposals and design Quarterly Business Review (QBR) decks, which allowed me to hone my ability to synthesize detailed information into comprehensive, strategic presentations.

Beyond the technical work, one of the most rewarding aspects of my internship was the exposure to cross-functional collaboration. I was introduced to various domains, including accounting, IPOs, financial risk, and managed services. This interdisciplinary exposure provided me with a well-rounded understanding of the broader business landscape, enriching my professional perspective.

Furthermore, I had the privilege of engaging with partners and directors—individuals whose expertise and experience are second to none. These interactions were invaluable, offering me the opportunity to deepen my understanding of industry best practices and emerging trends. The guidance I received from these seasoned professionals was instrumental in shaping my approach to complex challenges.

I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the many individuals at Connor Group who contributed to my growth during this internship. From the very beginning, the onboarding process was exceptionally smooth, making my transition into the team both seamless and welcoming. The first week, in particular, set the tone for the entire internship, providing me with the necessary tools and knowledge to hit the ground running. Shout out to Jaron Chatterley , Allison Patterson , Marilyn Miller, M.S. and Cody Spackman for an insane experience !

Beyond my immediate team, I had the privilege of engaging with professionals across the firm, from partners and directors to colleagues in various departments. Their insights and advice were instrumental in shaping my understanding of the industry and refining my approach to complex challenges.

Special thanks to Joe Burritt , my POD leader, whose guidance was invaluable throughout this journey. I also want to acknowledge the support and encouragement from Markham Bennett , Roxanne Brady , Jess Ferrucci, CPA , Maria Bayer , Anubha Agrawal , Brian Cheung, CPA and Henry Uehling , who took the time to share their experiences and perspectives, helping me navigate the nuances of consulting and beyond. Their mentorship has had a lasting impact on my professional development, and I am deeply appreciative of the knowledge and wisdom they imparted. In addition to the guidance from senior professionals, I also had the privilege of learning from my fellow interns. Collaborating with such a talented and diverse group of peers was invaluable; we shared insights, tackled challenges together, and supported each other’s growth.

As I conclude this chapter, I am confident that the skills and insights I’ve gained will serve as a strong foundation for my future endeavours. The experience has not only enhanced my technical and strategic abilities but also reinforced my commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.
