On transforming lives

Connecting with nature and InnSæi

“We could do anything today, the possibilities out there are endless, and because of that I think it is now time to look within and see what it is we are actually putting into that ability. Because the things we put into technology, engineering and science is what matters. It really doesn’t matter any more how much we can do. We can do basically whatever we think up, you know, sci-fi has become a reality, right?”

In so enjoyed speaking with Elise Marcianti recently, in her podcast Explore Your Core. We spoke about the importance of putting ourselves back into the living world, breathe it in, sense it and go from there and what it means not to be present in the ‘real world’.

We spoke about what happens when we are on autopilot, live in our heads and what happens when we go back into our body with a present mindset and allow the world to come to us.

For most people, this is often the biggest personal transition they go through in their lives. It certainly was for me. And it is a big one. It shifts the centre of gravity in how we navigate the ocean of life and work.

Elise’s story is both deeply moving and hugely inspiring. I highly recommend you dive into some of her writing on Substack, amazing nature images and outdoor sports activities, she shares on her instagram @elisemarchianti. The Curious Path: With Elise Marcianti is a documentary film which follows Elise as she transforms her past struggles with mental health into a beacon of hope and inspiration.

One of the leading causes of illness in the world today, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO), are disability and depression, including severe anxiety and stress. Burnout has been on the rise in the last decades among people of all ages, and is reaching our youngest generations too, even in the Nordics, which are known for being home to some of the happiest people on Earth.

Elise struggled with anorexia nervosa, which, according to statistics makes people 31 time more likely to take their own life.

We spoke about Nature, her healing powers, and how Nature gradually brought Elise back to life. Knowing her difficult story, you wouldn’t believe the stuff she does today - out in nature!

Elise shares on her Substack that she came across my work on InnSæi 6 years ago after watching our documentary InnSæi - the Sea Within.

She writes: “It changed the course I was on, it was the first time I had heard the words for something I had been feeling and seen the science behind something that sounded so intangible- intuition. I watched it at a time where I was begining to understand more about consciousness, nature and what goes beyond the physical.”

Her words have more meaning for me now, after I’ve seen the film about her personal story back to life and ‘into her whole body’. How her toughest life experience has transformed her into the leader and courageous trailblazer that is today.

If you’ve been reading my newsletter, book or seen the film, you know that InnSæi is an Icelandic word and a concept for intuition and means ‘the sea within’, ‘to see within’, and ‘to see from the inside out’.

Here’s a piece of Elise Marcianti’s art work, which she drew to reflect on InnSæi and ‘to see from the inside out’
