Translation and Interpreting in 2019
In addition to outstanding language courses, especially for companies, Slůně – svět jazyků (world of languages) processed 1841 translation orders, of which 1608 were done in the Ostrava headquarters. This means an average of 7 orders per day at the head office. Of this number, 34 were for interpreting. Total translations and turnover for the whole of Slůně (Ostrava, Brno, Prague, Pilsen) was comparable with 2018.
The clientele consisted not only of regular but also new clients. Some of the new ones used our services once, others became regular customers. Last year, we were also more successful in attracting customers who ordered both translation services and language lessons.
Our customer portfolio includes companies operating in the automotive industry, in automation, railway transport, engineering, quality management, medical devices, chemicals, footwear, industrial machines, law firms, universities and hospitals.
For corporate clients, we most often translated product catalogs, user manuals, websites, marketing and promotional texts, contracts, company documents and certificates. In the first quarter of the year, they were usually annual and audit reports, and tax returns. The translations were both standard and forensic.
For private individuals, we mostly processed legal translations. These were done not only at our Ostrava headquarters, but also at our branches in Prague, Brno and Pilsen. They consisted mainly of criminal records, birth certificates, marriage certificates, divorce documents, powers of attorney, medical reports and various certificates.
Geographically, our customers are from all corners of the Czech Republic. The highest percentage are from the Moravian-Silesian Region, then Prague and Pilsen. We also provide translations for several foreign companies, mostly from Poland, Germany, Austria and Slovakia.
English was the most frequently translated language, followed by German, Polish and Spanish. Ukrainian has also been on the increase. Compared to previous years, the number of translations to and from Slovak decreased. Other languages that appeared quite often included Italian, Hungarian, Romanian, Bulgarian, Dutch and Vietnamese. We translated into other languages as well, but their share was small. The combinations of foreign languages did not deviate from the trend. Translations from German to English and vice versa were common. Similarly, English was combined with Polish, French and Spanish. We also had a few rare combinations.
Interpreting was consecutive and simultaneous, with the former far more predominant. We interpreted social events, conferences, trainings, meetings and even art workshops for children. The languages interpreted were English, German, Polish and Italian.
There were a lot of new experiences in 2019 that have allowed us to grow further and we believe that our clients will benefit from them in 2020.
We look forward to working with you,
Your Slůně – svět jazyků
