#transportation #freightforwarding #logistics #supplychain Planning for 2023 .... back to the basics

As a client who procures regionally and internationally and who understands business is increasingly competitive and #critical what value can an experienced logistics service provider offer to support your goals in 2023 and beyond?

Looking for answers in a puzzling new environment? Should be easy no? Lots of choices out there vying for your support.

The world has been flipped upside down due to Covid, geopolitical risks and a few other challenging events that seem to be bringing havoc to global supply chains.

Lock downs hindering overseas factories, equipment and booking challenges, growing concerning consumer trends of wanting products yesterday, wars devastating countries, infrastructure bottle necks, labor unrest etc... and many more playing out in this matrix of confusion.

Does our industry have the solutions to mitigate and reduce these massive issues for our clients?

The list goes on. How do we cope and survive this new reality as our customers source products from the farthest reaches of the world these days? Looking to reduce costs across all areas of the transaction and speed up timelines of products to sites and consumers at a dizzying pace - I wonder how this is even possible and what boundaries we push at increasing speed of movement & speed of reply.

Can anyone actually fulfill their roles properly under unrealistic timelines and increasing speed?

To be honest, some of the questions and answers are yet to be properly defined & implemented. Why? Different challenges for every customer; we all too often know this and see generic offerings fall well short of expected results. Some customers do not know where to even start this process.

One main challenge is that every client has different issues based on their own corporate DNA - internal issues, suppliers, locations, staff understanding level and intelligence, customers. Afflictions and illnesses due to ongoing bad habits, lack of knowledge and the "we always did it that way" mentality.

We continue to over complicate and seemingly reduce intelligence entering a dangerous realm of immovable issues. Understanding the challenges, powers at play, business environment and abilities needed to navigate these continued trade and transportation storms seems impossible now. Is understanding & new brain power coming into our industry to rescue the future for our customers?

When looking for answers my guidance given is always one of partnership and transparency especially now. The new business relationship & system must be developed based on mutual goals. If customer and service provider work against each other there will never be a positive result and the result will always be the negative same.

Unwillingness to move on issues, lack of mutual understanding & communication, inability to understand, incorrect assumptions & direction, unimportant/unnecessary requirements, false information are all killers of realistic solutions and positive results during these unprecedented times.

We all need to take a step back away from the process, slow down and just think some days it seems.

Let's get back to the basics in #2023 then with these 5 critical takeaways,

  • Clear communication from the start.
  • Important questions that need to be asked and answered.
  • Deep understanding of cause and consequence.
  • Mutual solution building with everyone in mind.
  • Realistic relationships across all members of the process.

Hoping 2023 smiles on your supply chain, transportation and mobilization.
