TRENDS 2025: CRIPTOCURRENCY

Let me start this article by sharing a bit of my personal story.

In 2020, my stepson introduced me to the crypto world, leading me to open an account with Binance. He advised me on investments based on social media insights, and I aimed for a 10% profit on each trade, unaware of concepts like stop loss or leverage.

I was pleasantly surprised by how manageable my goal was, which sparked my interest in other investment opportunities. My enthusiasm for trading grew, leading me to leave my job by the end of 2021. As the situation in Ukraine unfolded, I found success in commodities trading and learned how monetary policy affected currency values, allowing me to thrive in the volatile forex market.

As the U.S. dollar (USD) strengthened, cryptocurrencies began to decline.

In November 2022, FTX declared bankruptcy, and by December 2023, Binance faced a $4.3 billion fine for money laundering. As a Binance investor, I struggled to withdraw my funds, causing significant anxiety. Despite believing in emotional control for trading, I felt overwhelmed and closed all opened positions, losing nearly half of my investments. This experience made me skeptical of the crypto space, leading me to avoid further investments, even as the market showed signs of recovery.

Bitcoin (BTC), the oldest and largest cryptocurrency, made headlines on Wednesday evening by surpassing the $100,000 mark for the first time.

This milestone followed Donald Trump's nomination of Paul Atkins as the next chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Atkins supports innovative capital markets, which Trump believes will attract significant investment to the U.S. and enhance the economy, particularly through digital assets.

Additionally, Russian President Vladimir Putin's comments about the U.S. undermining the dollar's global status have also piqued interest in BTC as an alternative. Even Jerome Powell, chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve, noted that while cryptocurrency may not directly compete with the U.S. dollar (USD), it could challenge gold.

Many analysts believe BTC could emerge as the leading "store of value" asset, potentially replacing gold in the next decade.

BTC's recent surge has made earlier price predictions seem more attainable, with forecasts suggesting peaks of $200,000 by late 2025, $500,000 by 2029, and even $1 million by 2033. Technical analysis shows potential support levels at $90,500 and $80,500 if profit-taking occurs. While pullbacks are typical in bull markets, future declines may be less severe. This shift in perspective has prompted me to reconsider my views on cryptocurrencies, and I’m now contemplating adding BTC and other major cryptos to my investment strategy for diversification.

As the financial landscape changes and global uncertainties rise, creating a balanced investment portfolio is crucial, but it must be tailored to your risk tolerance and goals.

To manage risks effectively, consider these strategies:

1. Diversification

Spread your risk by investing in various asset classes.

2. Dollar-Cost Averaging

Invest a fixed amount regularly in the assets you choose, regardless of price fluctuations, to average your purchase cost over time.

3. Setting Limits: Stop-Loss Orders

Use stop-loss orders to automatically sell an asset if its price falls below a certain level.

4. The Long Game

Focus on long-term growth rather than short-term market changes to better navigate fluctuations.

5. Stay Informed

Keep up with cryptocurrency news, market trends, and regulations to make informed decisions.

6. Know Your Limits

Only invest what you can afford to lose.
