1moGraduation requirements and educational mandates have always been handled by the state government. Quite frankly, a federal DOE is unnecessary. Federal tax dollars that are allocated for special needs services are better procured through state taxes and allocated accordingly. Yes, the poorer states may not like this, but the solution is to raise the economic power of the state through favorable interstate commerce. (Certainly, education is a key to upliftment of the states but without key economic anchors, that talent will go elsewhere)
