Moscow 1980: More on the heartbreak of the Jimmy Carter-led 1980 Olympic boycott, from a 2005 Los Angeles Times story by Alan Abrahamson

Paris 2024: More problems with the Paris medals, with a French swimmer saying his had developed “crocodile skin”!

Paralympic Games: More acceptance, as the Japan Olympic Committee and Japan Paralympic Committee agree to allow joint sponsorship agreements. 

Commonwealth Games: In a BBC interview, Commonwealth Games Federation chief Chris Jenkins is enthused for the future after the naming of Glasgow for 2026 in a much more compact and cost-effective model. 

International Olympic Committee: The year-end message from IOC President Thomas Bach (GER) emphasized the success of the Paris Games, and the role the Olympic Movement can play in a troubled world. 

Russia: Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a new program of scholarships for Olympic, Paralympic and other athletes, and coaches, with 4,000 recipients targeted in 2025. 

Athletics: Michael Johnson said in an interview that his Grand Slam Track program can help elevate the sport to where golf, tennis and Formula 1 are, and will announce the broadcasting arrangements in January. 

Swimming: Swedish sprint superstar Sarah Sjostrom said she will not compete in 2025, but will train with an eye to working back up to full speed for a try at a sixth Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028.
