● Los Angeles 2028: A new motion asks the L.A. City Council to clear the way for the LA28 organizers, exempting it from the usual permitting process in view of an already-overwhelming workload for the City Planning Department.
¶ The L.A. Metropolitan Transportation Agency followed up on a request from Congressional committees, specifying how it would spent a potential $200 million appropriation on planning and services needed for the 2028 Games.
¶ A CalTrans report from August, available online, shows the first look at freeways where special “Games Route Network” – with reserved lanes – could be created.
● Olympic Council of Asia: The Court of Arbitration for Sport dismissed the appeal of Kuwaiti Sheikh Talal over the nullification of his 2023 election as OCA President and confirmed the 2024 election of India’s Raja Randhir Singh.

● Russia: Russian athletes are warming up to the idea of competing as “neutrals,” with both artistic and rhythmic gymnasts indicating they would compete that way if allowed in 2025.
● Basketball: The U.S. men won the FIBA 3x3 Americup over defending champ Puerto Rico, while the Canadian women beat the U.S. in the final, in overtime.
● Football: FIFA sent a written apology to the Ukrainian Federation of Football after the FIFA World Cup 2026 European qualifying draw showed a map which depicted the Crimea as part of Russia. It’s not.
¶ UEFA announced that the prize money for its women’s EURO 2025 championship will increase to €41 million from €16 million!
● Ice Hockey: A selection of American collegians won the Women’s Euro Hockey Tour six-team event in Finland as guest entries, beating fellow guest Canada, 5-3, in the championship final.
● Modern Pentathlon: Dr. Doug Stull was elected as the head of the UIPM Medical Commission, joining his older brother Rob – the UIPM President – on the federation’s Executive Board.
● Swimming: World Aquatics recognized world-record setters Noe Ponti of Switzerland and American Gretchen Walsh as the top swimmers of the World 25 m Championships; by one count, Walsh won $290,417 in placement and world-record prize money!
¶ World Aquatics named French Olympic star Leon Marchand and Canada's Summer McIntosh as its swimmers of the year on Sunday.
