Tucked Into A Soft Velvet Glove
It certainly was an about-face with our weather today, and so much so, I was wishing I'd dressed considerably warmer whenever outdoors. What little rain we received, certainly made the grass look all the greener, and when looking at how fast it's been growing, I'm afraid the season of mowing will soon be upon us. I definitely have some sticks to pick up from last winter's winds before I get started.
Once settled-in at office, I placed a call to a colleague, just to get some insight on decisions which had been made by others, and only because I'd never heard of such before. Unfortunately, the information I received, didn't match-up with those chain of events, but at least we did make a connection, so I guess I'll just have to wait and see what unfolds from it all.
Several days ago, I made some promises to several friends of mine, which was to help with getting some things moved, so I changed into my work clothes, and placed a call to the first one on my list, just to tell him I was on my way over to his home, and shortly thereafter, I drove over to help as much as I could.
What he needed, was an extra pair of arms to help him get a cast-iron bathtub moved from his garage, into his home where he was in the process of doing a gut-remodel of his bathroom. Having helped move those mid-century brutes in the past, we both knew it had to be a concerted effort, and only because one mis-step could've caused pulled muscles and big bruises.
The biggest job, was getting it up onto a dolly, and then rolled over to his front door where there were three steps leading into his living room. The first and second steps weren't so bad, but the third was the tricky one, but at least we finally got it up and over the threshold, and then laid back down on his living room floor. I know I'll have to go back over when he's ready to have it set in place after the flooring has been installed and the plumber has all the water and waste lines re-installed.
When he started his project, the plan was to install one of those fiberglass tub/shower units which you can normally buy on the cheap at Menard's, but as chance would have it, a friend of his happened to be freely gifted, a pearl white mid-century tub that was in about the most perfect condition he'd ever seen, so he gladly accepted it. Once it was in the house, I took a really good look at it, and for sure there wasn't a scratch or nick to be found. My only comment was, "Looks like whomever owned it, must've showered in another bathroom all those years, and only because it's still in showroom perfect." Truth be told, I absolutely hate those fiberglass units, and only because they're harder to clean and end up yellowing with age.

After getting a great big "Thank you!", I bid my farewells and headed over to a shop to help get a large chest of drawers which a friend of mine purchased several days ago. Now that was a piece of cake compared to the struggles we had moving that tub. After we got it delivered to her home, and then placed in her bedroom, all three of us sat down and had a good chat about the recent happenings and events in our lives. Because I've known them for so long, our filters were off while discussing certain nameless people in our lives. I'm sure there were some ears burning while we were roasting those various naughty monkeys we were speaking about. By the time we were finished, I couldn't believe how much time had lapsed, because if I'd stayed longer, I would've been late for another appointment. Yes, we three go back a very many years, and I dare say our long chat was long-overdue.
After my next appointment was finished, I proceeded to go over to a property and get some measurements done for a client of mine, and while there I couldn't help noticing there'd been some damage done by those creatures wandering around our City who're purposely stealing and/or destroying property of others. Of course I had to later place a call to the owner, just to let her know what I'd found. Without a doubt, there's been more vandalism and larceny in our City these past twelve months, than I've ever seen. I've also recently heard about an number of vandalized vehicles belonging to Downtown tenants who're forced to leave them parked outside, and only because there are no garage spaces to be had. I'll never forget the morning I was driving south on Commercial Alley and noticing a very expensive Telsa with its windows broken. In spite of that building having cameras posted, I've yet to hear if they caught those two guys who did it. Like I've mentioned before, when those devils have their faces covered with those knit masks along with being hooded-up, I doubt even the best of surveillance cameras can offer confirming identifications. Just today, I told someone it would be a cold day in Hades before you'd find me leaving my vehicle parked overnight in our 'Historic Downtown'.
Just recently, I was on the phone with someone who was over-using filler words which nearly had me fit to be tied by the time I hung up. Oh my goodness! When are people ever going stop saying, "Um", "Aah", "Ya know", "Like" and "Sooo", along with similar expressions as their discourse markers, interjections, and verbal pauses? Their over-use has been getting so bad of late, I find them nothing less than verbal distractions. Back when I was young, I started getting into that dirty habit of saying, "Ya know...", until my mother cut me off by saying, "What do I know?" Yes, her admonishment was just enough to keep me from saying it again. Gosh I'm glad I had a mother who had an iron fist, but nearly always tucked into a soft velvet glove. I still believe that's the best form of parenting. The iron fist in a velvet glove approach has always worked wonders. Unfortunately, now that I've pointed out those popular filler words, you'll now start noticing them being used by others. Naughty me.
